Bell Media spared as BCE cuts 700 jobs

BCE is cutting nearly 700 positions across multiple lines of business, however Bell Media is not among them.

The Bell Canada cuts impact approximately 460 non-unionized workers and 230 unionized roles and are part of the company’s three-year growth strategy, BCE confirmed to multiple outlets.

The move comes just weeks after BCE fired a handful of employees across the country for allegedly violating its three-day a week in-office policy by falsifying attendance records.

According to annual reports, Bell had over 38,500 employees at the end of last year, which was down about 1,700, compared to 2024.

Monday’s layoffs follow the most recent round of restructuring in February, impacting 60 employees at Bell Media. The company eliminated 690 jobs the previous November, including 650 in management and 40 corporate roles. Another 98 jobs were cut in February 2026 in Toronto and Montreal, with 1,200 unionized employees receiving voluntary separation packages. The previous year, Bell announced 4,800 job cuts as part of a major restructuring of its telecom and media divisions.

BCE Q1 2026 operating revenues were $6,168 million, up four per cent compared to Q1 2025.
