Brad Smith and Brittnee Blair are joining the lineup of Global TV’s new afternoon lifestyle show, TMS2. Set to premiere on Sept. 8, entertainment reporter Morgan Hoffman was previously announced as host. Smith, the former host of Chopped Canada will join Hoffman as co-host, while media personality Blair (Big Brother Canada, The Morning Show, ET Canada) will also serve as an entertainment reporter, contributing to TMS2, The Morning Show, and Global News. Landon Ferraro is joining TSN as the network’s new Jets on TSN analyst. The son of longtime TSN analyst and NHL’er Ray Ferraro, he spent last season as a Vancouver Canucks analyst for Sportsnet. He moves into the position vacated by Kevin Sawyer, who is joining Sportsnet as the Calgary Flames new colour commentator.

Tony Brar is leaving the Edmonton Oilers after eight years. Brar had been an Oilers TV host and reporter since 2018.

Darin Banister has announced his retirement from Stingray Calgary, effective Sept. 30. Banister began his media sales career at WIC/Corus Radio Calgary almost three decades ago before making a stop at Astral/Bell and ultimately joining Newcap/Stingray in 2010. Banister will stay on through the C97.7 (CHUP-FM) ownership transition to help ensure a smooth handoff of clients and relationships.

Mose Persico is moving to a new daily time slot on Montreal’s CFQR 600 after seven months in afternoon drive. He’s now the host of Midday with Mose Persico, weekdays from noon to 1 p.m. Alongside his new shift, Persico has officially been named Station Ambassador and will represent CFQR at community events.
Claudine Jarabe has exited Rogers Sports & Media, where she’s been a National Account Manager in Toronto since 2024. Jarabe has joined Wllkins Media as Director of Client Partnerships, Canada.

Samantha Hastie has announced that her time with Rogers Sports & Media has come to an end after more than two decades. Hastie had been an Ottawa-based Senior Account Manager since 2005.

Paul Howard has joined sdpn as Sales Director. Howard was formerly a National Account Manager with Rogers Sports & Media for 18 years.

Neil Benedict is among those impacted by the cancellation of the local Halifax edition of Global Morning News. Benedict leaves the network after 12 years as a technical producer, capturing, producing and editing ENG content.

Clay Young is joining the Winnipeg Sun, contributing to the paper’s digital and social platforms. The Winnipeg media veteran, who was most recently seen on Global News Morning in the market, was among those impacted by consolidation of the morning show earlier in the summer.

Dana Roberts has joined CBC News as a reporter for the public broadcaster’s new Peel Region Bureau. As previously reported, Roberts arrives from CTV, where he’s most recently been a CTV News Channel producer, based in Toronto.

Philippe de Montigny is joining CBC News as a senior business reporter for the next year. Most recently Chef du bureau economique at Radio-Canada, de Montigny has worked with the public broadcaster since 2015.

Alex Boyd is joining CBC Calgary as a senior reporter covering provincial affairs. The veteran Alberta journalist arrives from the Toronto Star, where she’s been covering Western Canadian politics since 2019. Prior to that, she held roles with Torstar, Metro and CTV2.
Julia Meyer is joining CBC News in Toronto as a Developmental Editorial Assistant, contributing to national news. Meyer was previously with NBC News as a Production Assistant on NBC News NOW 24/7.

Pierre-Yves McSween has stepped away from his hosting role with Radio-Canada while his spouse, author Geneviève Pettersen, runs for office in the Quebec election. Pettersen is running for the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), attempting to succeed former Premier François Legault as the Member of Parliament for the riding of L’Assomption.

John Wright has been named the Canadian Journalism Foundation’s (CJF) inaugural Distinguished Research Fellow. Wright, the CEO of Canada Pulse Insights, will guide CJF’s research efforts, helping the foundation understand how Canadians engage with news and what that means for the future of journalism. Wright started his career with the Angus Reid Group in 1989, where he secured media polling partnerships with Southam News, Toronto’s CFRB (NewsTalk 1010) and CBC Newsworld. Read more here.

Fion Anastassiades has been reappointed to the Board of Directors of TVO and designated as Chair for a five-year term. Adesua Ezeokafor joins the board as a new member and has been appointed Vice-Chair, also for a five-year term. Hailing from Oakville, Ezeokafor is Chief Financial Officer of +OSB, a Canadian manufacturer based in Burlington, and previously held senior finance roles at Fusion Pharmaceuticals and Phillips 66 Canada.

Andreane Leblanc has been named Vice-President of Public Affairs and Communications at Telefilm Canada. Leblanc has worked with Telefilm for a decade, most recently as Acting Senior Director of Communications & Governmental Affairs.

Sam Halpern has been promoted to Director of Non-scripted Development at Vancouver’s Omnifilm Entertainment. Halpern has been a factual producer with the prodco since early 2025.

Diana Sanchez has been elevated to President of Hot Docs, effective immediately. Alongside Hot Docs’ Board of Directors, Sanchez has restructured the executive leadership team, appointing Mara Gourd-Mercado to the position of Executive Director. Gourd-Mercado, who takes up her new role Oct. 19, is currently Head of Industry & Training at CPH:DOX (Copenhagen International Documentary Festival). Prior to that she served as Executive Director of the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM).
RADIO & PODCAST:
CBC has unveiled its fall 2026 audio slate, anchored by a new flagship investigative podcast hosted by Chief Correspondent Adrienne Arsenault, alongside fresh true crime series, and an expansion of CBC political podcasts to radio. CBC Radio is also introducing new voices to flagship shows: Salimah Shivji, former Mumbai-based international correspondent, takes over as host of daily evening newscast Your World Tonight, while CBC News meteorologist and science reporter Johanna Wagstaffe steps in to host climate-focused weekly program What On Earth? Arsenal Media officially finalized its acquisition of the BPM Sports network on Monday from RNC Media. The $1.45M transaction encompasses CKLX 91.9 Montreal, CHXX 100.9 Quebec City, and CFTX 96.5 Gatineau. Originally launched by RNC Media in 2022, BPM Sports operates as Quebec’s only French-language radio network exclusively dedicated to sports. Read more here.
The Kitchener Rangers have officially found a new radio home for the 2026–27 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) season, partnering with FM 98.5 (CKWR-FM) and The Grand @ 101 (CICW-FM). The deal brings play-by-play coverage for all home and away games back to the local airwaves on FM 98.5, with digital streaming available via the station’s website and the Radioplayer Canada and iHeartRadio apps. The partnership follows the sudden shutdown in July of 570 NewsRadio (CKGL-AM) Kitchener. Read more here.

The London Knights are changing their radio dial address, ending an eight-season run with Corus Entertainment’s 980 CFPL. Blackburn Media and Brand One Digital Marketing have inked an exclusive partnership securing the local radio and streaming media rights for the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) franchise. Starting this season, Classic Rock 98.1 FM (CKLO-FM) will serve as the primary broadcast home for the Knights, carrying all evening regular season and playoff games. Read more here.
The CRTC has approved an application by Byrnes Communications to remove a condition of service related to news programming imposed on 101.1 More FM (CFLZ-FM) Fort Erie, serving the Niagara region. The condition – a legacy obligation originally imposed more than 20 years ago on a former station owner – required CFLZ-FM to broadcast at least three hours of news programming each week, with a minimum 30% devoted to local news. Byrnes argued in a November application that regional competitors do not have a similar news-specific condition imposed on them.
Numeris has established an industry working group to support the Canadian radio industry’s transition to new hybrid measurement solution, Radio Local+. Developed in collaboration with StatsRadio, Radio Local+ will replace Online Radio Diary (ORD) measurement for 22 markets later this fall. The working group brings together industry stakeholders, including Rogers Sports & Media, Bell Media, Canadian Broadcast Sales, Cogeco Media, Corus Entertainment, Stingray, Pattison Media and Target Broadcast Sales, as well as industry advocacy group, Radio Connects, and Numeris. SiriusXM has announced that The Howard Stern Show is being adapted into a streamable episode that will air on HBO Max. A new season of the show debuts on the satellite radio provider on Monday, Sept. 14, with new episodes to drop weekly on subsequent Mondays. New streamable HBO Max episodes will debut Thursday, Sept. 17, with 40 cameras capturing Stern’s live show. Read more here.

SIGN OFFS:
Jay Levine, 69, on Sept. 1. Levine was instrumental in the creation of Fashion Television in 1985, which went on to air in over 120 countries. He served as a director and supervising producer on the show for 27 years, right through its final season in 2012. While with Citytv and CTV, he also produced a number of network specials, documentaries and other series, including Channel 4/CTV co-production, Spectacle: Elvis Costello with…; and UK factual docuseries, The Art of Architecture. He also served as a producer on 2002 arts documentary Naked in the House, which won a Gemini Award. He started his career at CityPulse News, including time spent serving as assignment editor. Jacques Doucet, 86, on Aug. 27. The French-language voice of baseball at Montreal’s Olympic stadium, Doucet spent 33 seasons – from 1972 to 2004 – calling more than 5,500 Montreal Expos games. Doucet is credited with helping popularize French vocabulary used to describe baseball plays. He started his career as a sports writer with The Canadian Press (CP) in 1959, going on to cover the Expos during their inaugural 1969 season as a beat reporter for La Presse. While still working in print, he occasionally did colour commentary on early radio broadcasts, stepping into the booth full-time ahead of the 1972 season. He also worked on French-language broadcasts for MLB playoff and World Series games. He went on to call games for the Quebec Capitales of the Can-Am League from 2006-11, once again returning to MLB with TVA Sports, calling French-language broadcasts for Toronto Blue Jays and playoff games. Doucet was inducted into the Quebec Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020. He’d previously received the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame’s Jack Graney Award in 2004 and the Quebec National Assembly Medal of Honour in 2011.
TV & FILM:
CHCH-TV in Hamilton has cancelled its Saturday evening newscasts at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. as economics force the Channel Zero-owned television station to trim costs. The station made the announcement over the weekend, with News Director Greg O’Brien writing in a post to its website that while CHCH has historically been able to exceed its licence obligations, the business has been “co-opted by foreign attention miners who care only about enriching themselves by keeping people addicted to their apps, and not about properly informing us.” Read more here.
ACTRA is calling for urgent action from Ottawa as U.S. President Donald Trump renews his call for an American production incentive for film and television intended to draw back the huge volume of shows and movies shooting outside the country. Trump wrote in a post to Truth Social on Monday that following a meeting with actor Jon Voight, he has a renewed interest in bringing more production back to the U.S. Read more here.
The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) has revealed the first set of nominees for the 25th annual DGC Awards, ahead of this year’s ceremony in Vancouver in November. The TV nominees – which include Television Series, Movies for Television and Mini-Series – include multiple nominations for CBC comedy Small Achievable Goals, which led nominations with four. The Alliance québécoise des techniciennes et techniciens de l’image et du son (AQTIS), IATSE Local 514, which represents audiovisual technicians behind the camera in Quebec, has reached a landmark agreement with Netflix. The four-year agreement eliminates the need to renegotiate an agreement for each Netflix project filmed in the province. Read more here.
CTV is kicking off Fall 2026 with a lineup of new and returning series, franchise extensions, live sports and entertainment events, and news coverage. Highlights include new series, The Traitors: New Blood (Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT, beginning Sept. 17), hosted by Alan Cumming; breakout medical drama DOC (Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET, beginning Sept. 22), starring Canadian lead Molly Parker; and S.W.A.T. Exiles (Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, beginning Oct. 2), the spinoff of the hit franchise starring Shemar Moore. Saturday Night Live also joins CTV Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET.
ETALK enters its milestone 25th season this fall, led by anchor Tyrone Edwards, alongside senior correspondents Lainey Lui and Traci Melchor, reporter Sonia Mangat, and L.A. correspondent Liz Trinnear. Hollywood Suite is set to debut the fourth season of original series, Cinema A to Z. Western Hockey League (WHL) games are shifting to YouTube for the 2026-27 season, following uncertainty regarding the future of Victory+, the league’s exclusive livestreaming partner since March of last year. The free ad-supported streaming (FAST) service, owned by Calgary-based A Parent Media Co., launched ahead of the 2024-25 NHL season. Despite signing streaming deals with the Anaheim Ducks, Texas Rangers, and National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), uncertainty has plagued the service since earlier in the summer as teams terminated their contracts. Transpositions by documentary filmmaker Simon Coutu is now streaming on YouTube. The topical work explores the rise of transphobia and the weaponization of trans identity in Quebec’s political and media discourse. The NFB production is the third instalment of its ON FILME documentary initiative, developed specifically for YouTube and presented in four distinct yet complementary formats, from a 30-minute short film to a two-minute overview.

T.O. Webfest, Canada’s premiere festival for short-form online series and podcasts, returns for its 13th annual edition from Sept. 29 – 30 at Novotel Toronto Centre. CBC News has reversed course on a policy to avoid referring to 9/11 as a “terror” attack without attribution. Toronto Sun columnist Warren Kinsella first drew attention to the long-standing policy last week following partial publication of a leaked internal memo circulated at the public broadcaster ahead of the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11th attacks. Basem Bosra, who has served as CBC News’ Senior Director of Journalistic Standards & Public Trust since 2025, wrote in an editor’s blog late Friday that following renewed “confusion” about how the words “terrorist” and “terrorism” are used in reference to 9/11, it’s changing its guidance. The Botchford Project, a mentorship program created to honour the memory of late Vancouver sports journalist, Jason Botchford, is expanding thanks to a new collaboration with Hockey Canada. Established by Botchford’s widow Kat Botchford in 2019, the initiative started with a partnership with the Vancouver Canucks and has since provided more than 30 aspiring sports journalists with the opportunity to cover an NHL game as a credentialed member of the media. The Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) has announced the cohort for the Emerging News Voices Program. The six-month program is designed to empower independent online news creators and lean digital news startups to establish sustainable frameworks for online reporting, audience growth and diverse revenue streams. Supported by the Google News Initiative, 20 creator-journalists and media organizations were selected, including independent digital publications, local newsrooms, and independent creator-journalists.

The recognition celebrates career milestones and long-term contributions to the broadcasting industry, including the Bronze Award – 10-14 years of service; Silver Award – 15-24 years of service; and Gold Award – 25+ years of service. Triton Digital has announced a strategic partnership with RCS to bring programmatic advertising capabilities to over-the-air (OTA) radio. The collaboration links RCS’ broadcast software playout capabilities to Triton’s programmatic ad-buying platform, allowing broadcasters to make their OTA inventory available through the same workflows advertisers use to buy streaming audio and podcast inventory. The North American Broadcasters Association (NABA) and the Association of Professional Wireless Production Technologies (APWPT) have announced a strategic partnership to further the interests of wireless microphones and other production equipment in North America and Europe. They aim to gather relevant data on the use of wireless production equipment and how regulatory changes would impact live cultural performances and sports events. Their priorities include the preservation of essential spectrum.
