Stingray Radio has completed its acquisition of C97.7 (CHUP-FM) Calgary from Rawlco Radio.
The acquisition, which officially closed Sunday night, received CRTC approval in June.
C97.7 joins Stingray’s existing Calgary stations, Contemporary Hit Radio format 90.3 AMP Radio (CKMP-FM) and Classic Hits vehicle XL 103 (CFXL-FM).
Stingray says C97.7’s 1990s-based music format is a complement to XL 103’s 1980s-focused playlist and AMP Radio’s CHR format, “creating a strong and diverse portfolio that serves listeners across multiple generations.”
The company says current C97.7 programming, on-air personalities and staff will remain in place.
“We are thrilled to welcome the C97.7 team to the Stingray family,” said Steve Jones, President of Stingray Radio. “Rawlco created one of Calgary’s strongest radio brands, and we’re excited to build on that success while continuing to serve listeners, advertisers and the Calgary community for years to come.”
Stingray – the country’s largest radio broadcaster – now owns and operates 30 stations across Alberta and 97 nationwide.
The CHUP-FM sale sees Rawlco exit the Alberta market. The CRTC also recently approved its takeover of 92.9 The Bull (CKBL-FM) Saskatoon from Saskatoon Media Group.
