The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) has revealed the first set of nominees for the 25th annual DGC Awards, ahead of this year’s ceremony in Vancouver in November.
The TV nominees – which include Television Series, Movies for Television and Mini-Series – include multiple nominations for CBC comedy Small Achievable Goals, which led nominations with four. Apple TV+ holiday short, The First Snow of Fraggle Rock, earned three nominations, alongside Hulu’s Margaret Atwood adaptation, The Testaments, Apple TV+ sci-fi series Foundation, and Acorn TV’s Irish Blood.
Hate the Player: The Ben Johnson Story earned two nominations. with Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series nods for both R.T. Thorne and Cory Bowles. Other multiple nominees include Netflix’s Wayward, Wednesday (Netflix), Murderbot (Apple TV+), in addition to Crave series Late Bloomer, Revival, and The Trades.
Individuals with multiple nominations include Faustine Pelipel, who earned three nods for Best Sound Editing (The Institute, The Gray House, Small Achieveable Goals); along with Joe Mancuso (Foundation, The Institute, Billy The Kid). Double nominees include Chris Cobain (Wayward, Small Achievable Goals); Jill Purdy (The Gray House, Small Achievable Goals); Paul Germann (Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, The Gray House); Stephen Barden (The Gray House, Small Achievable Goals), and Tyler Whitham (Foundation, Murderbot).
The DGC will unveil the nominations for Feature Film, Documentary and Short Film as well as the short-list for the Jean-Marc Vallée DGC Discovery Award, following the DGC Awards juries later in September.
