Nora Young is logging off after more than 30 years as CBC’s preeminent voice in technology journalism. Young retires as CBC News’ Senior Technology Reporter, but she started her career with the public broadcaster in 1993 as a columnist on short-lived CBC Radio Saturday afternoon show Brand X, going on to become the founding producer and host of Definitely Not the Opera (DNTO). She went on to create CBC Radio show and podcast, Spark – a weekly guide to tech, trends, and fresh ideas, which came to an end in 2024 after 17 seasons. Read more here.
Dave Wheeler has announced he’ll wrap up his time in the Winnipeg radio market and Evanov Communications’ Energy 106 (CHWE-FM) on July 30, 2027 when his contract is up. Evanov revived Wheeler’s career in 2020 when they hired him to anchor Energy’s morning show, following his much-publicized firing from 92 CITI FM’s highly-rated Wheeler in the Morning in 2018. Lamont Hollywood, one-half of the long-running Lamont and Tonelli morning show on San Francisco Bay Area hard rock station 107.7 The Bone (KSAN-FM), announced on Facebook Monday that he’d been laid off by Cumulus Media after 24 years. Hollywood, who started his career in Winnipeg at 92 CITI FM, had hosted alongside Paul Tonelli for 35 years, initially at KSJO, prior to his co-host leaving the show two years ago.
Marissa Lyons has stepped into a new role as National Midday Host for Corus Radio’s Country stations. Lyons has been hosting middays on Corus’ Country 105 (CKRY-FM) Calgary since 2022. Prior to that, she was a co-host on The Casey Clarke Show, Stingray Radio’s regional morning show for Kamloops/Kelowna.
Vista Radio is making moves to strengthen the radio group’s revenue leadership team with the appointment of Liesel Unger as Vice President, Revenue, and Jesse Van Montfoort as Director, Local Sales. Unger is promoted from the position of Director, National Sales and Partnerships, while Van Montfoort formerly held the position of Senior Manager, Digital Revenue. Read more here.

Al Lucas is retiring after 40 years in media sales. Retail Sales Supervisor at Harvard Media in Red Deer for the last five years, Lucas started his career as a sales rep at Southern Alberta Broadcasting in Lethbridge in the early 1980s. He went on to hold roles with Monarch Broadcasting, Newcap Radio (where he ascended to the position of General Sales Manager for Red Deer and Alberta Radio Group South), and Golden West Broadcasting in Lacombe.
Clay Young has confirmed his more than 15-year run with Corus Entertainment is over. Young, who was most recently assigned to the Winnipeg edition of Global News Morning, had been with the company since 2008, initially as an anchor and reporter on 680 CJOB.
Kylene Thiessen has announced her departure from Rogers Sports & Media after 17 years. Thiessen had most recently held the title of Media Sales Manager in Calgary. She joined the company in 2009 after holding account roles with Newad and Global TV in Vancouver.
Jeff Walker is taking on Music Director duties at 107.9 GO Rock (CFLB-FM) Lunenburg, NS, effective Aug. 31. On-air since the station first launched in 2024, Walker has hosted Friday Night Loud, while also producing and hosting popular feature, GO Vinyl. In addition to his new music responsibilities, he’ll continue to serve as Program Director for online offering, GO Throwbacks.
Sandra Kleinfeld, the CBC’s Senior Director of Documentary, is set to retire at the end of August after two decades with the public broadcaster. Kleinfeld joined CBC-TV in 2006 as Executive in Charge of Production, Factual Entertainment. A former Canwest and Alliance Atlantis production executive, she’d held her current role since 2016. Marie-Maude Gervais has joined CBC/Radio-Canada as Director, AI & Innovation. She arrives from Quebec-based BRP where she was most recently Director, Connectivity & Application Development. She’s also held roles with Fair Play Productions and Bell Media.
Michelle Tormos has joined the Digital Products and Innovations Team at CBC/Radio-Canada as Senior Product Manager, CMS. Tormos arrives from Montreal’s Valtech, where she was a business analyst and product owner.
Matthew Law has been appointed General Counsel at Rogers Communications. Law, who has been with Rogers since 2024, moves into his new role after serving as Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs.
Emma Bishop has joined the Pacific Screenwriting Program (PSP) as a part-time Program Manager for the year. Bishop has worked with TIFF and the CBC across creative development, scripted content, acquisitions, and industry programming.
