Barbara Motzney

Barbara Motzney, the CRTC’s first chief consumer officer, is leaving for a new post with the federal government. Motzney has been appointed assistant deputy minister of policy and strategic direction at Western Economic Diversification. She had been with the CRTC since Oct. 2012.

Bonnie MacPherson will join the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group on Apr. 17 as director of National Sales, based in Toronto. MacPherson previously held similar posts with Rogers and Astral Radio.

Brent Shearer, Lisa Bowes, Cal Cagno, and Gillian ReillyNames continue to emerge from ongoing layoffs at Bell Media. Brent Shearer has been released by CTV Vancouver where he’s been a reporter since 2010 and co-host of CTV Morning Live since 2014. Sports anchor Jason Pires slides into the co-hosting slot following the elimination of a dedicated sports segment, with weekend sports anchor Karen Thomson also a casualty. Sports reporters/anchors Glenn Campbell, Lisa Bowes and Heath Brown are affected at CTV Calgary. Meantime, Windsor-based alternative rock station 89X (CIMX-FM) has closed its American office and has cut on-air staff including Cal Cagno, Gillian Reilly, Phil “PK” Kukawinski, Reed Petitpren and several sales and marketing positions. Bell Media says 89X, 93.9 the River (CIDR-FM), Memories 580 (CKWW-AM), and AM 800 (CKLW-AM) will retain their current formats and continue to broadcast into the Detroit market.

Karine Moses

Karine Moses, president of Astral Out of Home, will also serve as VP, Bell Media Sales, Québec. In her expanded role, Moses will lead TV, radio, AOOH, and digital integrated sales and operations for all Bell Media properties in Québec. Debbie Drutz has been named vice-president, Sales, Astral Out of Home. Most recently, Drutz was VP, Client Strategy at Bell Media Sales. She also held the position of vice-president, Bell Media Mix.

Jean-Paul Sclapari

Jean-Paul Sclapari is the new head of sales for Quebec at Pelmorex Media. Sclapari was most recently VP of sales and business development at Zweet. Prior to that he was with Bell Media Montreal.

Abe Hefter

Abe Hefter has joined the Communication faculty at the University of Hartford as an Applied Assistant Professor. His most recent radio stops were CJAD 800 and TSN 690 (CKGM-AM) in Montreal after previous stints at Broadcast News in Toronto, CKNW NewsTalk 980, NW2 (CHMJ-AM) and News1130 (CKWX-AM) Vancouver.

Jacob Glick

Jacob Glick has joined the Centre for Law, Technology and Society at the University of Ottawa as a Distinguished Executive Fellow in Residence. Glick served as the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Rogers Communications Inc. from 2014 until last month. Glick was previously at Google where he served in a number of leadership positions, including running the Central Public Policy and Government Relations team.

Kristine Klimczak

Lionsgate has promoted Kristine Klimczak to the position of executive vice-president and assistant treasurer. Klimczak joined Lionsgate in 2005 as VP of finance. Kate Davies moves into the position of senior VP of accounting and finance.

Mary Jo Nsuk

MusicMaster Scheduling, Inc. has expanded its Dallas headquarters with the addition of Mary Jo Nsuk as corporate accountant. Mary Jo, who also holds an MBA and B.S. in Business Administration, will join the team led by MusicMaster CFO/controller Ryan Young.
