FM morning shows also casualties of Rogers Sports & Media cuts

Griff & Caroline, the morning show duo on JACK 92.9 Halifax, are among those impacted by Rogers Sports & Media's layoffs.

More Rogers Sports & Media radio employees are coming forward acknowledging that they were part of last week’s round of layoffs in the media division beyond the six stations that abruptly were taken off the air on Tuesday.

At least two FM morning shows were caught up in last week’s job cuts that saw a total of 230 positions eliminated. Eighty of those positions were connected to the six stations shuttered, including 1130 NewsRadio (CKWX-AM) Vancouver; Sportsnet 650 (CISL-AM); 660 NewsRadio (CFFR-AM) Calgary; Sportsnet 960 AM The Fan (CFAC-AM) Calgary; NewsRadio 95.7 (CJNI-FM) Halifax; and 570 NewsRadio (CKGL-AM) Kitchener.

Griff and Caroline, who had hosted the JACK 92.9 (CFLT-FM) Halifax morning show for the past 13 years, were also among last week’s cuts, alongside 20-year production director Mike Halverson.

The well-known morning hosts, who have been on-air in the market for two decades, have started a Facebook page since their release that is already garnering thousands of views and received hundreds of messages.

98.5 The Ocean (CIOC-FM) Victoria morning duo, AJ & Mira, were also impacted, with Paul Allen one of the only on-air staff left at the station. A petition has since been launched on Change.org calling for AJ & Mira to be reinstated.

Among others caught up in last week’s job cuts are Kylee Winn, Digital Creator & Content Specialist for Rogers Sports & Media’s Music Brands, and Andrew Johnson, Content Director in Kitchener.
