Mike Wilner is joining the Toronto Star as a baseball columnist and host of a new podcast, less than three months after parting ways with Sportsnet. Up until November, Wilner had worked with Rogers Sports & Media since 1995, starting as an anchor, news and sports reporter with 680 News (CFTR-AM) Toronto, before transitioning to Sportsnet 590 The Fan (CJCL-AM) and the Sportsnet Radio Network in 2001. Since prior to the 2019 season, he’d been partnered with Ben Wagner, calling play-by-play on network radio Toronto Blue Jays broadcasts, in addition to authoring a blog.

Dave Cadeau

Dave Cadeau, program director at Sportsnet The Fan 590 (CJCL-AM) and Director of Programming, Sports Radio for the network, has parted ways with Rogers Sports & Media. Cadeau had worked with Rogers off and on since 2004, producing, hosting, and anchoring. After leaving the network to chase produce TSN’s Off The Record for three years, Cadeau returned to The Fan in 2011, working his way up to APD by 2013 and PD in 2015. He’d held the Director of Programming, Sports Radio title for the last four years.

Rob Fai

Rob Fai, the former host of TSN 1040 (CKST-AM) Vancouver late night show, Rob Fai Nation, is among the recently released TSN Radio employees continuing their radio shows independently. Fai is now streaming his show via Twitch, Vimeo and YouTube, while former TSN 1150 (CKOC-AM) Hamilton afternoon host and Ti-cats play-by-play announcer Marshall Ferguson is ramping up his site Canadian Football Perspective, and its accompanying podcast. He’ll be joined by CKRM Regina sports director Derek Taylor, former 1150 producer Kyle Melo, as well as sports journalists Connor O’Neil, and Wade Zanchetta.

Patricia Châteauneuf, Émilie L. Laguerre, Reneault Poliquin

CBC & Radio-Canada Media Solutions has promoted Patricia Châteauneuf to the role of Executive Director, Multi-platform Media Sales, Montreal and Eastern Canada, effective April 1. She succeeds Reneault Poliquin, who is set to retire at the end of March. Châteauneuf was most recently CBC/Radio-Canada’s Director, National Multi-platform Sales and Client Innovation for the last seven years and previously held leadership positions with TC Media and Astral Media. CBC/Radio-Canada has also hired Émilie L. Laguerre as Director of Business-to-Business Marketing & Communications. Laguerre has a background in branding, marketing and sales, most recently as Director, Communications and Partnerships at Quebec bookstore chain, Renaud-Bray.

 

Raj Shoan

Raj Shoan has been appointed ACTRA National’s new general counsel. The former CRTC regional commissioner for Ontario, formerly served as legal counsel for the commission, prior to his appointment in 2013. He’s also held Regulatory Affairs positions with CBC and Astral Media.

Douglas Gelevan

Douglas Gelevan is officially CBC Montreal’s new weekend TV host. Gelevan has been a news and sports reporter with CBC since 2010. In addition to anchoring, he’ll continue to cover local sports three days a week and contribute to Olympic coverage.

Brittany Henriques

Brittany Henriques has joined CityNews Montreal as a videojournalist. Henriques has been working with Global News for the last two years as an associate producer, reporter and web journalist.

Miriam Valdes-Carletti

Miriam Valdes-Carletti has joined CTV Saskatoon as a videojournalist. Valdes-Carletti was previously a digital content editor with the network in Toronto. She’s also held production, writing and web roles with CTV Your Morning and The Marilyn Denis Show.

Travis Prasad

 

Travis Prasad is making the jump from CityNews to CTV News in Vancouver. Prasad worked as a freelancer for CTV on the assignment desk, writing and reporting, prior to joining Citytv as a videojournalist in 2017.

Colton Praill

Colton Praill is landing at CTV Ottawa after leaving his morning anchor gig at Global Regina in November to relocate to the Capital Region. Praill, who had been with Global since late 2017, has been working as a talk show producer and writer at 580 CFRA since the start of the year.

 

 

Safeeya Pirani

Safeeya Pirani has joined Global BC as an anchor and reporter. Pirani arrives from Vancouver’s Spice Radio AM 1200 (CJRJ-AM) where she’s been a host on the station’s morning show for the past four and a half years, as well as news director.

Afua Baah

Afua Baah has left 105.9 The Region (CFMS-FM) in Markham for a new opportunity. Baah had been an anchor with the station since 2016. Prior to joining The Region, she’d been part of the Corus Entertainment newsroom in Barrie.

Frances Yap

Frances Yap has joined the News 1130 (CKWX-AM) Vancouver newsroom as an anchor and reporter. Yap is a BCIT graduate and has experience as a freelancer, including filing for Entertainment Tonight Canada.

Kevin Oschefski

Kevin Oschefski is joining Vista Radio’s 106.3 Moose FM (CFXN-FM) North Bay as the afternoon host, starting Feb. 22. Oschefski has most recently been hosting the afternoon show on Rogers’ KiSS 100.5 (CHUR-FM), in addition to serving as Content Director for KiSS North Bay, Timmins & Sault Ste. Marie. 

Daryl McIntyre

Daryl McIntyre, who retired from CTV Edmonton in Sept. 2019 after 33 years, has resurfaced as a fill-in talk host on Corus Entertainment’s 630 CHED Edmonton and 770 CHQR Calgary. McIntyre filled in last week on The Drive with Jock Wilson in Calgary and is in this week for JLyn Nye in Edmonton.

Mary Anne Waterhouse

Mary Anne Waterhouse has been appointed Peacock Alley Entertainment’s EVP of Content Production. In the newly-created post, she’ll be responsible for building and leading Peacock Alley’s content production team and further growing the Toronto prodco’s development and service-producing slate, alongside president Carrie Mudd. The collaboration comes on the heels of the release of Tiny Pretty Things for Netflix, in which Mudd served as an executive producer and Waterhouse as a producer. Before joining Peacock Alley, Waterhouse also completed production on upcoming family feature Nightbooks for Netflix. Among her other credits is dystopian action saga Elysium; cult horror The Cabin In The Woods; Kodachrome directed by Canadian Mark Raso and starring Jason Sudeikis and Ed Harris; and indie feature Fido starring Carrie-Anne Moss and Billy Connoly.

Lynn Chadwick

Lynn Chadwick has been appointed Huminah Huminah Animation’s first VP of Content and Sales. Chadwick will lead the Dartmouth, NS animation service studio’s move into developing more original content and drive sales of its existing kids’ catalogue. Chadwick was formerly VP, Sales & Distribution for Sinking Ship Entertainment from 2013-15 and prior to that was VP, Network Content Acquisition and Pay TV for Corus Entertainment, in addition to holding VP roles with Nelvana and Salter Street Films.
