Vassy Kapelos joins CTV as Chief Political Correspondent

Vassy Kapelos is leaving CBC to join CTV News, starting Dec. 1, as Chief Political Correspondent and host of CTV News Channel’s daily political program, Power Play, and weekly, Question Period.

Kapelos will also host iHeartRadio network program, The Vassy Kapelos Show, weekdays from noon – 2 p.m. ET, airing on CJAD 800 Montreal, 580 CFRA Ottawa, Newstalk 1010 (CFRB-AM) Toronto, 610 CKTB St. Catharines, 1290 CJBK London, AM 800 CKLW Windsor, AM 1150 (CKFR-AM) Kelowna and CFAX 1070 Victoria.

“I am so excited to join CTV and host iconic political programs I have grown up watching my entire life,” said Kapelos, in a CTV announcement. “I look forward to continuing to do what I love – report on politics and how it affects Canadians’ lives – with the team at CTV News, and I’m honoured to step into the shoes of my friends and mentors who have hosted these programs before me.”

Kapelos steps into the role vacated by Evan Solomon, who joined New York City-based foreign affairs news site GZERO Media as publisher in October. Kapelos has been the host of CBC’s Power & Politics for the last five years. Prior to that, she served as the Ottawa Bureau Chief for Global News and host of The West Block. She’s also spent time as a reporter and video journalist in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

She is a two-time Canadian Screen Award winner, including a 2021 Best Talk Program or Series honour for Power & Politics.

“Vassy Kapelos is one of the country’s most esteemed and trusted political journalists and we are thrilled to welcome her to the CTV News team,” said Karine Moses, Senior Vice President, Content Development & News for Bell Media and Vice Chair, Quebec for Bell. “The perfect choice to lead political coverage for CTV News, Vassy’s skill in reporting major stories and contextualizing them for Canadians is unparalleled across the industry.”
