Tubi expands Canadian content library

Tubi has announced its latest Canadian content expansion, adding over 600 movies and TV episodes to its free, ad supported video-on-demand streaming library.

The new content spans studios including Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Discovery, with select titles to be available for a month and series available for up to a year. Among the movies coming available on the streamer are The Expendables and John Wick franchises, 21 Jump Street (2012), 22 Jump Street, The Karate Kid franchise, Pineapple Express, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, This is the End, Catwoman, The Bodyguard, Demolition Man, in addition to series like The Tudors, La Brea, Gilligan’s Island and Maverick

Tubi, which announced a longterm content and ad sales partnership with Bell Media last fall, says it’s delivered 30% year over year growth in monthly active users since 2020.

The streamer recently released a Canada-specific report finding that deep catalogues enable rediscovery, cross-generational viewing, and repeat engagement, with comedy (70%), action (64%), and crime shows/movies (63%) ranking as the top three streaming genres. Expansive libraries also increased the likelihood of viewer discovery, according to the report, with 79% of Canadians indicating they’ve found older “new to them” content from browsing streaming services.

“The future of streaming is about serving fandoms at scale,” said David Salmon, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, International, at Tubi, in an announcement. “As home to the largest library of movies and TV series in Canada, Tubi gives younger, multicultural consumers the breadth to explore everything they’re passionate about. The continued expansion of our market-leading library reinforces our commitment to championing every fandom, completely for free.”

“We’re focused on building and evolving our studio partnerships to better serve fandoms with the movies and series they already love,” added Sam Harowitz, SVP of Content Acquisition and Partnerships at Tubi. “Working closely with our world-class content partners allows us to deliver a diverse slate of high-performing titles that keep audiences engaged and coming back to Tubi.”
