Tracy Moore and Cheryl Hickey part ways with Citytv

Veteran hosts Tracy Moore and Cheryl Hickey have parted ways with Citytv, as Rogers Sports & Media reconsiders development of a national hour of Breakfast Television (BT).

The network announced last April that its long-running daytime show, Cityline, would be coming to an end during its 40th anniversary season and be “reformatted” into a fifth live hour of BT. Moore, who was the host of Cityline for a decade, stayed on at Citytv to host the new national hour, alongside longtime entertainment reporter Cheryl Hickey.

A Citytv spokesperson told Broadcast Dialogue that the network has now decided not to move forward with development of the new national programming segment, which was set to air from 10 to 11 a.m. ET.

Moore will continue to work with Rogers Sports & Media in future, and is set to co-executive produce a television special later this year, the details of which are still under wraps.

“We’re always assessing our television schedule to ensure we deliver programming that will build strong audiences, and we’ve decided not to move forward with the development of a new national hour of Breakfast Television,” a Citytv spokesperson said. “Tracy has been an invaluable contributor over her almost 20-year career with Citytv and we look forward to doing more work with her as an independent producer. Cheryl has earned a strong reputation as one of Canada’s leading television entertainment hosts and we wish her continued success.”

Both Hickey and Moore posted farewell messages to their Instagram accounts, with Moore – who leaves Citytv after two decades – writing that she was “Elated. Full of gratitude. So proud.”

“My work stands for itself…it’s the relationships I truly cherish. And they aren’t going anywhere,” Moore continued. “Thank you for allowing me into your homes and your hearts.
The next chapter starts *now*”

Hickey added that the goal of the new show “was to create something to support people where they were at and be a landing page with various brands for joy and inspiration.”

“I still believe in that goal and will continue to find a way to lean in this direction,” Hickey wrote. “Am I sad / disappointed? Yes, I am human, but I am excited for what is to come…curious, but excited.”

“What is next? That is the beauty of this life, we get to create our next and for that I am grateful.”
