Scott Roberts joins Global Edmonton

Veteran anchor and reporter Scott Roberts will succeed the retiring Gord Steinke as co-anchor of Global News Hours at 6 in Edmonton, beginning Sept. 1.

Roberts, who’ll co-anchor alongside Carole Anne Devaney, was most recently at CTV Vancouver. Roberts had been co-anchoring the station’s flagship newscast since the fall of 2018, alongside Mi-Jung Lee until getting caught up in layoffs at Bell Media this past March.

Global Edmonton says after embarking on a Canada-wide search for Steinke’s replacement, Roberts “embodies everything Global Edmonton was looking for.”

Born in Ontario, the Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) graduate launched his television career in Edmonton with CTV as a weekend anchor and reporter, following time as a print journalist.

“We are so lucky to have a seasoned, award-winning journalist joining our team,” said Devaney, in a Corus Entertainment announcement. “Scott is professional, friendly and engaging. He knows and loves Edmonton and is excited to be back here. He will be a great asset to our newsroom.”

Gord Steinke

“I’m incredibly excited to be back in Edmonton,” said Roberts. “I started my television career in Alberta and it’s a privilege to be able to come back and tell the stories of this province and this city again. No one does local news better than Global Edmonton and I can’t wait to get to work with Carole Anne and the entire team.”

“After sharing the anchor desk with Carole Anne for over a decade and so many amazing newscasts and road shows in the community, I’m honoured to pass the torch on to Scott Roberts,” added Steinke, who celebrated his 30th anniversary with the station earlier this year. “I wish Scott and Carole Anne much success and hope they have as many rewarding experiences bringing news and information to our loyal viewers as I did for over my 30-year career at Global Edmonton.”
