Sarah McLachlan joins Pro Canada Project PSA campaign

Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan is the latest Canadian to sign on to the Pro Canada Project PSA campaign, encouraging Canadians to “Shop as if your country depends on it.”

Since the campaign’s launch in February, in response to the threat of tariffs from U.S. President Donald Trump, the effort has attracted well-known Canadians from across comedy, music, television, sports and broadcasting, including Anne Murray, Mark Critch, Chantal Kreviazuk, Hayley Wickenheiser, Ron MacLean, Brian Williams, Arlene Dickinson, Ron James, Rick Mercer, Colin Mochrie, Deb McGrath, Peter Mansbridge and Cynthia Dale.

“After recording her personal message for the Pro Canada Project, hockey legend Hayley Wickenheiser was so fired up that she suggested to her friend Sarah McLachlan that she do one too,” said producer Mike Occomore, who leads the Pro Bono Group – the non-profit behind the campaign – alongside commercial creative veteran Larry MacInnis. “Sarah quickly agreed, eager to help protect Canadian jobs and businesses.”

In the PSA, McLachlan passionately relays what song she performs that gets the biggest audience reaction.

“Well that’s easy,” states McLachlan. “It’s one we all know. It gets everyone on their feet and fills us with pride. It’s our national anthem.”

Occomore says the majority of radio groups are airing the campaign on their English radio stations, including Rogers Sports & Media and Bell Media, in addition to other broadcasters.
