KiSS Throwbacks format launches on former Metro Vancouver SONiC RADiO stations

Rogers Sports & Media has launched KiSS Throwbacks on its former SONiC RADiO stations in Vancouver, Abbotsford and Chilliwack.

The move sees the KiSS brand reintroduced to B.C.’s Lower Mainland after a three-year absence. Rogers expanded its Edmonton Alternative Rock format SONiC to Vancouver in June 2022 with an infamous viral stunt that saw the station abruptly switch to playing Rage Against The Machine’s Killing in the Name Of on repeat ahead of the launch.

KiSS Throwbacks will play hits from the ’90s and 2000s, with its anchor artists including Backstreet Boys, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, NSYNC, and the Black Eyed Peas; hip-hop tunes from Coolio, Nelly, Dr. Dre, and Notorious B.I.G., and pop-rock tunes from Blink-182, Green Day, Linkin Park, and Jimmy Eat World.

Rick Campanelli, who stepped away from the CHFI Toronto afternoon drive show to join Breakfast Television earlier this month, will helm mornings on KiSS Throwbacks from 6 – 9 a.m. PT.

Jonny Staub, who hasn’t been heard in the market since leaving the Virgin Radio 94.5 (CFBT-FM) morning show in 2022 to pursue a career in firefighting, will take on afternoon drive from 4 – 7. p.m. PT. The lineup is rounded out by midday and 90s @ Noon host Bri Cook, who is also heard on Calgary’s Star 95.9 (CHFM-FM) in middays. Livin’ la Vida with Juliette Nunes will air from 1 -4 p.m. The former Virgin Radio (CIBK-FM) Calgary host returns to radio after a two-year absence. CHFI afternoon drive host Greg Burns will be heard in evenings on KiSS Throwbacks from 7 – 10 p.m.

Rogers network personalities Heather Prosak, Matty B and Kierstyn Pare will also be featured on the stations.
