Kayla Grey announces departure from TSN after 10 years

Toronto-based sports media personality Kayla Grey has announced her exit from TSN after a decade.

Grey, who revealed the move in a lengthy Substack post on Monday, has been with the network since 2015 when she started as a producer at TSN 1050 (CHUM-AM), working on Toronto Raptors and Toronto Leafs games. She went on to anchor sports updates on the station, before moving over to the television side. By 2018, she had made her debut on Sportscentre, becoming the first Black woman to host a national sports highlight show.

The Shift, which Grey hosted and co-executive produced, launched in May 2021, a non-traditional sports show diving into culture and trends, as well as highlighting Canadian and diverse perspectives.

“I am forever indebted to The Shift family and can’t thank them enough for always buying in, even when the future wasn’t clear,” Grey wrote. “It’s beautiful and a miracle to think that in an industry as uncertain as ours, five years flew by and we get to close this chapter on our own terms.”

While Grey hasn’t disclosed where she’s headed next, she was seen on Amazon Prime earlier this year as a WNBA sideline reporter.
