CBC/Radio-Canada appointment yet to be finalized: Canadian Heritage

The office of Canadian Heritage Min. Pascale St-Onge says a decision has yet to be finalized on who will succeed CBC/Radio-Canada President Catherine Tait.

Several Quebec media outlets, including Radio-Canada, reported this week that TV5 Québec Canada CEO Marie-Philippe Bouchard will replace Tait in January, citing unnamed sources.

In an email to Broadcast Dialogue, Canadian Heritage said a candidate has yet to be confirmed for the position.

The department said formal steps that must take place before a candidate is selected, have not yet been completed. For reasons of Cabinet confidentiality,  appointment decisions are not disclosed until formalized by the Governor General’s signature.

Bouchard has been at the helm of TV5 Québec Canada – a not-for-profit French-language broadcaster and affiliate of the TV5 international television network – since 2016. She previously worked at Radio-Canada from 1987 to 2016, most recently as Director General of Radio-Canada’s music properties, including ICI Musique.

Tait has been in the President & CEO role since 2018, appointed to a five-year term that was extended by 18 months in spring 2023.
