Barney Shynkaruk named Harvard Media’s Director of Sports Revenue

Harvard Media has announced that Barney Shynkaruk is stepping away from hosting the long-running “SportsCage” on Regina’s 620 CKRM to take up a new role as Director of Sports Revenue.

Shynkaruk, who has been a Sales Manager with Harvard since 2007, took up the role of full-time host of the sports talk show two years ago. Prior to his transition into sales, he was a Global Saskatoon sports anchor and served as sports director for Golden West Broadcasting’s stations in Swift Current, among other roles.

Airing weekdays from 3 – 6 p.m. and streaming at SportsCage.com, the company says Shynkaruk has been instrumental in expanding the show’s presence across multiple platforms and strengthening its commitment to local  Saskatchewan sports coverage.

“Barney stepped in to bring SportsCage into a new era of multiple platforms and expanded local content,” said Brad Bazin, Harvard’s Vice President of Programming & Brand Strategy, Saskatchewan. “His work has grown the product, and he has achieved what he set out to do. He  can now focus full-time on the revenue side of our sports offerings.”

“I planned to do the show for two years and see where we could take it,” added Shynkaruk. “It’s been gratifying watching the show grow in audience and structure, and making new friends along the  way, but it’s been almost three years of missing important events at home. My family is my life.”

CKRM currently holds broadcast rights to the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Western Hockey League (WHL) team, the Regina Pats.

The company says it will share more about the future of the program next week, with an announcement set for Nov. 10.
