Corus cancels late night network talk show ‘The Shift with Shane Hewitt’

Shane Hewitt has revealed that Corus Entertainment has cancelled his late night network talk show, The Shift with Shane Hewitt.

Carried by 980 CKNW Vancouver, QR Calgary, 630 CHED Edmonton, 680 CJOB Winnipeg, 640 Toronto, 900 CHML Hamilton, and 980 CFPL London, in addition to Stingray’s Radio NL in Kamloops, Hewitt said in a post to YouTube that it’s his understanding he will not be replaced. Instead “re-run” content will air in The Shift’s former time slot, which varied station-to-station.

“For the next few days you’re going to hear some of our ‘best ofs’ on the air and next week there will be a new series of re-runs and playdowns, I’m told, that will take this time slot. There will not be a replacement host. There is no show to back this up as far as I’ve been told,” said Hewitt. “The Shift comes to a close. I’m sad by this news.”

“I don’t feel like I was finished with the show, but I do feel complete with what we started to create,” he continued, going on to thank his listeners – fondly referred to as “shiftheads” – and urging them not to take to social media with negative comments but rather memories of how they were touched and inspired by the show.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m sad. I don’t know what’s next. I have an awful lot of great ideas,” said Hewitt, indicating that he plans to keep the show’s fan page active on Facebook.

Hewitt had been a host with Corus since 2016 and frequent guest host on The Shift with Drex, prior to taking the helm of the show in November 2020.

Broadcast Dialogue reached out to Corus for comment. A spokesperson declined to provide further details, but indicated a new programming announcement would be forthcoming.
