Adam Wylde and Jax Irwin announce departure from Virgin Radio Toronto

Adam Wylde and Jax Irwin have announced that their morning show on 99.9 Virgin Radio (CKFM-FM) Toronto is coming to an end. This Friday will mark the duo’s last day on-air.

Wylde has been juggling the morning show with SPDN, the sports podcast network he runs, which produces The Steve Dangle Podcast, among other shows, which Wylde also contributes to as a co-host.

“It just got to the point where I was like ‘you’re going to have to choose one,'” Wylde told listeners Wednesday morning. “And this is one of those situations where I needed to bet on myself and made the decision to go. It’s difficult because for me personally, when I started in radio as an intern at CHUM-FM 16 years ago, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else and all I wanted to do was mornings in this city. And I got to do it for five years and I got to do it with the woman standing next to me…”

“I’m so sad professionally because you are my radio husband, but personally I’m so excited, this makes so much sense,” Irwin responded. “You have a lot on the go and I want to keep you forever.”

“When we started this show…it was such a different time, and we’ve been doing the show for four and a half years, but because of the world changing it feels like we’ve been doing it and meeting people who listen to the show in different capacities for 20 years,” said Irwin, who is set to get married in June and plans to do some travelling.

The show was flooded with text messages and calls from disappointed listeners following the announcement.

The duo confirmed producer Leah Abrahams will be part of the station’s new morning show. Bell Media said more details will be announced at a later date.
