DGC Awards television nominees announced

The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) has announced the nominees for the 2022 DGC Awards for Television Series, Movies for Television and Mini Series.

The Guild received a record 300+ television submissions this year. Winners will be announced at the West Coast DGC Awards in Vancouver on Nov. 5.

The television nominations are led by CBC comedy Sort Of, which scored four nominations including an Outstanding Directorial Achievement, Comedy Series nod for Fabrizio Filippo, Best Production Design, and two nominations for Picture Editing in the Comedy and Family Series Category. CBC/BET+ co-production, The Porter, earned three nominations, with Charles Officer up for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series. Super Channel TV movie Christmas Movie Magic also received three nods, including Best Production Design, Picture Editing, and Sound Editing in the Movies for Television category.

By talent, Melanie Orr and Helen Shaver lead the directing categories, with nominations for ‘Run the Burbs and Hardy Boys, and Maid and Station Eleven, respectively. Multiple nominees in the editing categories include John Douglas Smith (Fraggle Rock, Motherland, From) and Dustin Harris (The Expanse, From).

Nominations for Feature Film, Documentary and Short Film will be announced following a meeting of the DGC Awards nomination juries on Sept. 10, in addition to release of the long-list for the DGC’s Jean-Marc Vallée Discovery Award highlighting emerging directors on their first or second feature to be announced during TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival).
