Paul Kaye named incoming president of Pattison Media

Pattison Media has named Paul Kaye as its next president as Rod Schween gets set to retire after 14 years at the helm.

Schween will remain in the president’s role through the end of the year to support the transition, as Kaye begins onboarding, starting Aug. 31.

Rod Schween speaking at the recent FWD Conference in Kelowna.

“After a great deal of reflection, I’ve made the decision to retire,” said Schween, in a company announcement. “This industry has shaped me in ways I never expected, both personally and professionally, and my passion for local media is as strong as ever. I am incredibly proud of what our team has built together and confident in the strength of the leadership team that will carry Pattison Media forward.”

Schween first joined Pattison Media in 2002 as General Manager in Cranbrook and later Lethbridge. Since he assumed the president’s role in 2012, the company has more than doubled in size to 51 radio stations and two television stations, in addition to launching radio sales software solutions, Validate and Resonate. Schween will remain involved with Pattison on a part-time basis “contributing to key projects” as well as continuing to advocate on the regulatory side of the business.

Kaye most recently served as the head of Rogers Sports & Media’s audio business, before stepping away in May of last year. He had been with Rogers since 2016 when he joined as VP, Product & Talent. Originally from the UK, Kaye began working in Canada in 2012, previously holding roles at Newcap Radio, including National Director of Talent Development.

“Paul Kaye brings strong leadership and incredible experience to this next chapter, and I have every confidence in Paul and in the team he will be leading,” said Schween. “The foundation is strong, the momentum is real, and the opportunities ahead are significant.”
