Schitt’s Creek is going out with 15 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series; Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Eugene Levy; an Outstanding Lead Actress nod for Catherine O’Hara; and Supporting nominations for Annie Murphy and Daniel Levy.
Levy also earned a nomination for Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for the series finale episode “Happy Ending,” while David West Read was nominated for a Writing award for “The Presidential Suite” episode in the same category. Editors Paul Winestock and Trevor Ambrose are both nominated for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For a Comedy Series. The show also picked up nominations for Outstanding Sound Mixing; Outstanding Casting; Contemporary Costumes; Hairstyling; and Makeup.
The CBC original series, which airs on Pop TV in the U.S., was nominated for four awards in 2019, but came away empty-handed.
By series, HBO’s DC Comics adaptation Watchmen leads the nominations with 26, followed by Amazon Studios’ The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with 20, Netflix drama Ozark and HBO’s Succession with 18, while Schitt’s Creek is tied with Disney+/Lucasfilm production The Mandalorian and NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
Netflix leads the nominations by platform with 160, setting a record previously held by HBO with 137 nominations in 2019. HBO had the second-most nominations with 107. Rounding out the top five were NBC with 47, ABC with 36 and FX with 33.
Other Canadian nominations include:
Sandra Oh for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Killing Eve, who is a nominee alongside co-star Jodie Comer in the same category.
Stephan James is nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for Quibi’s #FreeRayshawn, alongside co-star Laurence Fishburne.
Martin Short earned a nod for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Dick Lundy on The Morning Show, while Hamilton’s Luke Kirby looks to go two-for-two in the comedy category for his guest appearance on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel after his win last year.
Several Canadians also earned nominations for their work on the Ontario-shot The Handmaid’s Tale, which has 10 nominations, including makeup artists Alastair Muir and Burton LeBlanc (Outstanding Contemporary Makeup); and last year’s Emmy winning team of Elisabeth Williams, Production Designer; Martha Sparrow, Art Director; and Robert Hepburn, Set Decorator, for Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Contemporary Program.
