In a big get for Rogers Sports & Media, longtime TSN sportscaster Chris Cuthbert is making the move to Sportsnet.
Rogers announced Friday that Cuthbert will be joining Sportsnet’s NHL broadcast team as a play-by-play announcer upon the league’s return to play.
“Sportsnet owns the #1 sports property in the country and I’ve always felt there is something special about broadcasting hockey games on Saturday nights,” said Cuthbert, in a release. “I look forward to having the opportunity and honour of contributing once again to the distinguished tradition of Hockey Night in Canada and delivering the NHL Playoffs as a member of the Sportsnet broadcast team. Along with my new colleagues, I count down the days until the puck drops again in 2020.”
Cuthbert, 62, first joined TSN in June 2005 as a play-by-play announcer for the CFL ON TSN and the network’s hockey coverage. Among Cuthbert’s career milestones are calling 16 Grey Cups and serving as CTV’s lead play-by-play announcer for Ice Hockey at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, in addition to calling the Gold Medal game at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Prior to TSN, Cuthbert was with CBC Sports for two decades and has also done work for NBC.

In 2006, he and analyst Glen Suitor won a Gemini Award for Best Sports Play-By-Play for their work on TSN’s CFL broadcasts. Cuthbert also won a Gemini Award in 1998 as Best Sports Broadcaster, and in 2004 was recognized by Sports Media Canada as Sportscaster of the Year. In 2014, he was inducted into the media wing of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

Sportsnet says as the NHL’s return to play approaches, more details on the network’s broadcast team and coverage will be announced.
