Martine Turcotte, Vice Chair, Québec, will retire from BCE Inc. in January after 31 years with the company. Turcotte, who joined Bell as legal counsel in 1988, has worked closely with five chief executives and been named to the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada Hall of Fame, after receiving the honour multiple times. She became the first woman in company history and the youngest person ever to be promoted to Bell’s executive team in 1999 when she was named Chief Legal Officer of BCE (1999 to 2008) and Bell Canada (2003-08). She was also Executive Vice-President and Chief Legal and Regulatory Officer of BCE and Bell Canada from 2008-11, before taking up her current role. Read more here.
Telefilm Canada has appointed René Bourdages as Senior Director, Cultural Portfolio Management and Marie-Claude Lavigne as Director, Government & Public Affairs. Bourdages, who’ll join Telefilm on Dec. 2, arrives from the National Film Board, where he’s served as Director General, Creation and Innovation since 2016. He previously worked with TVA/Quebecor, Astral Media, and CBC/Radio-Canada, in addition to founding production and fund consulting firm ELEVADO Media. In his newly-created role, Bourdages will oversee Project Financing, Business Affairs and Co-production, and Canada Media Fund Program Administration. Lavigne’s background is in public affairs, most recently with Energie Sagenuay. She arrives at Telefilm Nov. 12 and will be based in Montreal and Ottawa. The agency says the two new additions complete the restructuring of its executive team.
Jean Mongeau, General Manager and Chief Revenue Officer, Media Solutions, at CBC/Radio-Canada, is leaving the public broadcaster after 25 years. Mongeau’s last day will be Feb. 24, 2020. After starting out with CBC/Radio-Canada from 1980 to 1995 as a member of the Sales and Marketing team, he worked for a variety of companies before returning to the public broadcaster in 2009 as GM, Sales and Marketing. He went on to become GM of the Revenue Group in 2011 and three years later was appointed to his current role. Barbara Williams, Executive Vice-President of CBC, said Mongeau played a transformational role on the local, national (thinktv and Numeris) and international levels through his involvement in the European Group of Television Advertising (EGTA) and the Global TV Group.
Nick Davis is taking on the role of Director of Engagement and Inclusion for CBC English Services. Davis has been with the public broadcaster since 1997, working in program development and workforce planning. Sandra Porteous previously held the post, up until her retirement this past Spring.
CBC has revealed that Matt Galloway, the longtime host of CBC Radio One Toronto’s Metro Morning, is set to take over hosting duties on The Current in the New Year. Galloway, who joined Metro Morning in 2010, will officially join the national show on Jan. 6, 2020. Laura Lynch, who has been filling in since Anna Maria Tremonti’s departure in June, will continue to helm the show until then. Galloway’s last day with Metro Morning will be Dec. 6, in conjunction with CBC Toronto’s annual charity drive and Sounds of the Season broadcast. Read more here.
Connie Walker, the award-winning host of CBC’s Missing & Murdered: Finding Cleo podcast is stepping away from the public broadcaster. Walker, who started with CBC News as a reporter with the Aboriginal Unit in 2001, is working on a project for Gimlet Media set to debut in the New Year.
Katie Simpson is leaving the CBC News Ottawa Bureau to join the public broadcaster’s operation in Washington, D.C. Simpson, who joined CBC in 2016, will take up her new foreign correspondent role in January.
Robyn Urback is leaving CBC News to join The Globe and Mail as its new current affairs reporter in Opinion. Urback has been writing a weekly column for CBC News and serving as the editor of its Opinion page. She’s previously worked with National Post as a columnist and member of its editorial board.
Christine Genier is the new host of CBC Yukon radio show Yukon Morning. Already a familiar media personality in Whitehorse as a host on Northern Native Broadcasting station CHON-FM, Genier is a citizen of the Táän Kwách’än Council. Her mother Shirley Adamson was also a former CBC Radio reporter.
Jonas Woost has joined Pacific Content as the branded podcast company’s Director of Business Development. Woost has been the Executive Producer, Original Content, for TELUS’ STORYHIVE project, which supports B.C. and Alberta filmmakers, for the last four and a half years. Prior to TELUS, he was the Managing Editor of CBC Music, overseeing digital and product development. Pacific Content says in his new role, Woost will work to grow its roster of clients and podcasts. Mike Gentile has returned to Sportsnet The Fan 590 (CJCL-AM) as the producer of new morning show The Leadoff with Ashley Docking, Mike Zigomanis, and Scott MacArthur. Gentile started his career with the station as a Humber College intern back in 1997. Since then he’s held producer roles at theScore, TSN Radio, The Weather Network, and taught sports journalism at Centennial College.
Bradley Green’s local morning show is no longer being heard on EZ Rock (CKOR-AM) Penticton as the iHeartRadio station moves to pick up more regional programming from its Kelowna (CILK-FM) counterpart. Allan Gee is now being heard from 6 – 10 a.m., followed by Stephen Keppler on middays, Katie Murray on drive and Erin Chase in the 7 p.m. – midnight slot.
