Signal Hill Insights promotes Paul Riismandel to president

Signal Hill Insights has announced that Paul Riismandel will take the helm of the audience research firm as president, effective Sept. 30.

Riismandel, who joined the company in January 2023 as Chief Insights Officer, will succeed Jeff Vidler, who will continue with Signal Hill as founder and strategic advisor.

In a company announcement, Signal Hill said Riismandel’s “deep understanding of digital audio advertising and ad effectiveness has established Signal Hill as the leader in adding industry insight to its media research services.”

“I am excited and humbled by the opportunity to take on this role, and grateful for the trust Jeff and the Signal Hill team have placed in me,” said Riismandel. “Data only becomes valuable with context and analysis, and providing our clients with deeply informed, actionable  and bespoke insights will continue to be our signature – one that is fundamentally integrative.”

One of the first dedicated researchers of podcast advertising, Riismandel has been in the space since 2014 when he joined Midroll Media (which SiriusXM/Pandora acquired in 2020). Prior to venturing into podcasting, he held various digital tech roles, including Director of Curriculum Support for Northwestern University’s School of Communication IT department, supporting the use of academic technology in their distance and online programming. Riismandel was also a longtime contributor to Streaming Media Magazine, going on to co-found audio news and opinion site, Radio Survivor and co-host its podcast.

Jeff Vidler

The company said in his new role, Riismandel will be responsible for driving Signal Hill Insight’s strategic vision and guiding it towards continued success and growth, including solutions for rapidly emerging sectors like video podcasting and the creator economy.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to pass the baton to Paul,” said Vidler, “From the time we first worked together when he was our client at Midroll, I knew Paul had the smarts, the shared values and the vision to be an industry leader. I was over the moon when he agreed to join us as Partner, as I am again now that Paul is set to take Signal Hill to new heights as President.”

Signal Hill’s clients include broadcasters, advertisers and publishers like Acast, AdLarge, Cumulus/Westwood One, iHeartRadio, NPR, Pacific Content, SiriusXM Media, Soundrise and Triton Digital
