Ruby & Alex Carr, the sibling duo who took over mornings at 102.1 The Edge (CFNY-FM) Toronto just one year ago, hosted their last show on the station Wednesday. Rick Lee, the program manager for Corus’ Hamilton stations, will be filling in as interim host until further notice.
Ronnie Stanton, who was named program director of Corus Vancouver stations CFOX and Rock 101 (CFMI-FM) in December, has been upped to an expanded role overseeing all of Corus’ FM stations in Alberta and B.C. Coinciding with the announcement, Phil Kallsen will retire after 22 years as Calgary FM Radio PD. His last day will be Feb. 14. Scott Phillips will also retire after 29 years behind the mic at Country 105 (CKRY-FM) Calgary, and many years as music director and APD with the station. His last afternoon drive shift will be Feb. 17. The company says a new role for Edmonton FM brand manager Greg Johnson within Corus Radio will be announced in the coming weeks. Read more here.
Troy Scott has joined Rogers as JACK format director and program director of Jack 96.9 Calgary. Scott has been with Bell Media’s Manitoba stations for the last four and a half years as PD of 103.1 Virgin Radio (CKMM-FM) and 99.9 BOB FM (CFWM-FM) Winnipeg and 96.1 BOB FM (CKX-FM) Brandon.
Tracey Friesen has been named Managing Vice-President of the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) BC Producers Branch. Friesen will represent BC-based independent producers, lead engagement with government agencies and stakeholders, and oversee CMPA-BC operations. Friesen, who was most recently Director of Communications and Public Engagement at the David Suzuki Foundation, spent more than a decade at the National Film Board and is also the founder of Story Money Impact, a not-for-profit that aims to advance research and education around media impact. She’ll take up her new role Jan. 27.
Quebecor Content and TVA Group have unveiled structural changes that will see Kathleen Vachon join Quebecor Content as Director, Entertainment and Lifestyle, while Claude Foisy is now responsible for TVA brands, specialty channels and brand deployment strategy. Vachon, has been with Groupe V Media for the past two years as Brand Director, Content and Development. Caroline Singher-Boucher, who previously held the title of Brand & Content Chief, Lifestyle & Documentary, becomes Director, Documentary Content.
Saskatoon Media Group has announced several internal promotions at its stations. Sarah Wallace joins Gregger on the 98 COOL FM (CJMK-FM) Breakfast Club. She previously worked part-time on the show. Trevor Chikowski is promoted from evenings on 92.9 The Bull (CKBL-FM) to become midday host and music director. Jerad Bowes moves down the hall from evenings on CJWW to host afternoon drive on 92.9 The Bull.
Chantal Braganza is leaving TVO to join Chatelaine as senior editor. Braganza has been a digital media producer and editor with TVO since 2015.
Elysia Bryan Baynes, 38, is retiring from Global News Montreal. Baynes has been with Global since 2003, holding roles as a producer, reporter, anchor and National Assembly correspondent.
Victoria Arsenault is the newest member of the 104.5 Fresh Radio (CFLG-FM) Cornwall team. Arsenault is now co-host of Fresh Mornings with Vic & The Panda, alongside Andreas Pandikui. Arsenault arrives via Fox FM (CFGW-FM) Yorkton, SK where she hosted afternoon drive.
Davis Morris has joined broadcast and production tech manufacturer FOR-A Corporation of America as its western regional sales manager. He’ll lead sales efforts across more than a dozen U.S. states, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as Western Canada. Morris spent more than 16 years as the western regional sales manager for Hitachi, in addition to stints with JVC Professional Products, Premier Mounts, VMI Video and Extron.
Alysha Williams has joined Bradley Karp as morning show co-host on K96.3 Kelowna’s Classic Rock (CKKO-FM). Williams and Karp previously worked together a decade ago at Arctic Radio in Thompson and The Pas, MB. She arrives from mornings at Sun FM (CJMG-FM) Penticton.
