Christianne Laizner, the CRTC’s vice-chairwoman of telecom, will stay in the role for a full five-year term. Laizner was in the position on an interim one-year basis. Her new term will begin July 17. She was previously senior general counsel and executive director of the CRTC’s legal sector.
Neil Cornwall has retired from CBC Windsor after four decades. Retiring as switcher-director, Cornwall’s career with the public broadcaster began in 1977. He’s held various technical positions over the years including camera operator, editor, and supervising technician. He was also involved with CBC’s national technical training department.
Jeff Holland has taken over the 4 – 8 p.m. time slot on Kiss 91.7 Edmonton (CHBN-FM). Holland, who had been co-hosting middays on 101.5 Kool FM (CKCE-FM) Calgary, replaces the afternoon drive team of Mike and Helena.
Frédéric Bissonnette, former CTV Quebec City cameraman, has been appointed director/coordinator at SRC/Radio-Canada’s National Assembly office.
Micki Cowan has joined CBC Vancouver as a reporter. Cowan had been with CBC Regina the last three years as a video journalist and news reader.
Blaine Gaffney has retired as the senior reporter at Global Okanagan after 27 years with the station. Gaffney started his broadcasting career in 1986 with CFTK radio and television in Terrace, BC.
