Steve Bates has been named Telefilm Canada’s interim Western Region Feature Film Executive. Bates has been an investment analyst with Telefilm since 2013.
Michelle Eliot is the new host of CBC British Columbia’s revitalized noon hour radio show BC Today. Formerly known as BC Almanac, the call-in show will now focus on a single topic for the entire hour. Eliot has been with CBC Vancouver for 18 years as director of morning show Early Edition and as a reporter, producer and guest host.
Adrienne Pan has been named as the new host of CBC Edmonton drive home show Radio Active. Pan has been anchoring and producing CBC Edmonton’s TV News at 6 the last seven years. She takes over the spot vacated by Portia Clark, who is now hosting CBC Halifax morning show Information Morning. Pan’s first day in the host’s chair will be July 3.
Pierre Landry is the new music director at CHOM-FM Montreal. He replaces Picard, who was a casualty of one of the recent rounds of cuts.
Britt Aharoni will be joining VICE Canada as senior publicist. The former NewsTalk 1010 (CFRB-AM) Toronto producer moved into PR in 2015 with Grey Smoke Media and most recently energi PR.
Denis Coderre, former mayor of Montreal, is joining Cogeco-owned French-language station 98.5 FM (CHMP-FM) Montreal as a commentator. Initially, he’ll be filling in for Pierre Curzi on the morning show, joining Mario Dumont for the Dumont-Curzi 8:30 a.m. segment.
Bhupinder S. Hundal is joining CBC Vancouver as the new senior producer for TV News. Hundal has been doing play-by-play and colour commentating with the Hockey Night In Canada: Punjabi Edition since 2014 and was with the OMNI BC and channel m news teams for many years.
Garth Buchko will retire in July after 35 years in radio. Starting out in sales in Rosetown SK, Buchko went on to manage operations in Toronto and Hamilton, in addition to CJOB and Power 97 Winnipeg. In 2014, Buchko moved to Kamloops to be a partner and GM with NL Broadcasting which was sold to Newcap Radio last year.
Dennis Heaton is the new president of the Writers Guild of Canada (WGC). The Vancouver-based showrunner replaces the outgoing Jill Golick. His credits include Motive, The Listener and Call Me Fitz. Also joining the WGC council are Alex Levine (Orphan Black) and Marsha Greene (Mary Kills People).
Dylan Boyd has been promoted to Social Media and Digital Content manager for Evanov Radio Group’s 19 stations. Boyd has been with Evanov since July 2017 as Graphic Artist & Digital Content administrator. His role will expand to provide leadership for digital content and social media initiatives and supervision of the ERG Graphics and Digital team.
