Paul Bliss, longtime CTV News reporter, anchor, and Queen’s Park bureau chief, has been suspended following sexual misconduct allegations by former journalist Bridget Brown. Brown published the allegations in a blog post on the Medium platform Friday, after seeing Bliss’s coverage of allegations against Ontario PC leader Patrick Brown.
Don Connolly of CBC Radio Halifax’s Information Morning has signed off after four decades on the air. Connolly joined the show in April 1976, and has since conducted an estimated 70,000 interviews in his 42 years with the program. Connolly’s foray into radio started when he took a news reading gig at CKBC Bathurst, after being laid off from a weekly newspaper. He made stops at CHNS Halifax and CKBO Ottawa, before joining Information Morning.
Julianne Hazlewood has taken over hosting duties at CBC Radio’s London Morning. Prior to coming to London, Hazlewood had been hosting Saskatoon Morning for the last year. She’s previously worked with the CBC in Ottawa, Vancouver, Windsor and Fredericton.
Zarqa Nawaz is the new interim host of The Morning Edition on CBC Radio Regina. Nawaz is best known as the creator of CBC sitcom Little Mosque On The Prairie. Nawaz will be in the host’s chair until August when Stefani Langenegger steps into the role full-time after she’s done travelling the world.
Bob Addison is now network producer of Corus Radio’s new national late night talk show The Shift with Drex. Addison is no stranger to Corus Vancouver, as the longtime producer of Sportstalk on CKNW AM 980, among other shows.
Solange Attwood has been promoted to executive vice-president, international in charge of Blue Ant Media’s transatlantic content distribution division. Attwood has been SVP of Blue Ant International since 2014.
Jorge Fernandes is joining Rogers Communications, stepping into the role of Chief Technology Officer, vacated last September with the retirement of Bob Berner. Fernandes will leave his CTO post at British carrier Vodafone UK on Feb. 1.
Rob Christie, currently morning host at Capital FM (CKRA-FM) Edmonton, is retiring after more than 45 years in radio. Christie has made stops at CKXL Calgary, CKGM-AM Montreal, 630 CHED Edmonton, MIX 99.9 (CKFM-FM) Toronto, CTV News Vancouver, KiSS FM (CKKS-FM)/JACK FM (CKLG-FM) Vancouver, JACK FM (CJAQ-FM) Toronto, and Magic 99 (CHMC-FM) Edmonton, among other stations. Christie will be replaced by Sean Burke, who is currently on-air at Newcap sister station CFCW Edmonton.
Ted Warner, senior consultant, Performance Marketing, at Postmedia is moving on to head up partnership/sponsorship sales in Toronto for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Warren has held various roles with Postmedia since 2015, after many years with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.
Kirstine Stewart is joining TribalScale as president and chief revenue officer. CEO Sheetal Jaitly will remain in his position, while Stewart will focus on international expansion, sales and revenue growth. Stewart has helped grow several tech companies, including Twitter Canada and Diply, since leaving her position as head of CBC English services in 2013.
John Morayniss is stepping down as eOne TV president as eOne fully acquires The Mark Gordon Company. Gordon will become eOne’s president and chief content officer, Film, Television and Digital, overseeing all of its creative units, reporting to eOne CEO Darren Throop. Steve Bertram has been appointed president, Film, Television and Digital and will oversee commercial and distribution operations.
Jimmy Baker is joining Cineflix Media as senior VP of development for Cineflix Productions. The former Whizz Kid Entertainment exec will be responsible for developing unscripted series for networks and platforms in the UK and North America.
