Corus Entertainment confirms staffing cuts across Global News, Corus Radio

Corus Entertainment has confirmed another round of staff cuts as part of ongoing efforts to streamline its operations.

“We can confirm that as part of our efficiency review, and in order to streamline operations and continue to deliver audiences with premium news and audio content, we have made changes in some markets across the Global News and Corus Radio divisions,” a Corus spokesperson told Broadcast Dialogue.

Among those confirming their departures from the company last week is Casey-Jo Loos, who had been hosting the 102.1 The Edge (CFNY-FM) Toronto afternoon show since June 2023. She had been with Corus for the last four years, initially as an on-air personality at CFOX Vancouver.

Sue Deyell has also been released after six years as the host of Mornings with Sue and Andy on Calgary news/talk station 770 CHQR, alongside Andrew Schultz, who appears to be continuing in the morning time slot solo.

The market veteran wrote in a post to Instagram, that after seven years with the company “To say I’m broken hearted is an understatement.”

“For 6 of those years, I’ve had the absolute best partner (in crime) on Mornings With Sue And Andy, with our little AM morning show consistently placing in the top 3 in Calgary in our demo! I will miss our amazing family of listeners and my wonderful coworkers,” said Deyell. “I’ve been in this industry for 32 years and it’s been an amazing ride – hopefully one that’s not quite over yet!”

Darryl Law, the longtime morning show host at 107.5 Dave Rocks (CJDV-FM) in Kitchener, who had been with Corus for 24 years, was also a casualty.

Behind the scenes staffers leaving the company include Kelsey Campbell, Senior Manager, Network Radio Programming & National Client Integrations, who had been with the company since 2016, starting as an on-air host at Edmonton’s CISN Country, in addition to Amanda Sittrop, Executive Assistant, Global BC, who had been with Corus for the last seven and a half years.

Corus is promising more information to come on impacts to programming.

The company’s Q1 2025 financial results saw revenue drop 12% in the quarter ended Nov. 30, as both television and radio revenues fell. TV revenue was down 11% to $303.6 million, compared with $342.4 million in the same quarter last year – including a 16% dip in advertising revenue – while radio revenue dropped 14% to $23.5 million, from $27.5 million year-over-year.
