Jax Irwin is joining Adam Wylde and TJ on Virgin Radio 99.9 (CKFM-FM) Toronto mornings.
Irwin, who has been midday host at Rogers’ KiSS 92.5 (CKIS-FM) Toronto since 2015, joined Adam Wylde & TJ this morning for a quick, hour-long introductory segment at 8 a.m. ET. It will be full-steam ahead for the new incarnation of the show Monday morning.
“It’s a wicked team over at KiSS 92.5, but this opportunity presented itself and I had to take the next step,” Irwin told Broadcast Dialogue.
Adam Wylde & TJ debuted on Virgin Radio on Jan. 1. Irwin previously worked with Wylde at KiSS 92.5, where he was also a host up until this past June.
“Adam is a good friend…and he’s such a pleasure to work with, so it’s like chatting with a friend now on-air,” said Irwin.
Never thought I’d be waking up every day with a man…. now I’ll be waking up with 2.
I am so so excited and honoured to finally share that I’ll be joining the amazing team at @VirginRadioTO , and that Virgin Mornings with Adam Wylde, TJ & Jax fully launches this Monday. pic.twitter.com/hkUkZQZWWb

Irwin previously worked for Bell Media in Halifax after starting her career at Evanov Radio, while still a student in the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) Broadcast program. After leaving the program early, she made the leap to Vista Radio in Prince George, BC, before returning to Halifax in 2011 to do swing at Bell’s 101.3 The Bounce (CJCH-FM), now a Virgin-branded station. She went on to stints hosting afternoon drive on both The Bounce and its sister station C100 (CIOO-FM).
“Rogers had been home to me since I moved to Toronto and they’ve been nothing but incredible, but Bell gave me my first full taste of CHR and full-time and the arc that is Top 40 radio, so I love Bell a lot,” gushed Irwin, when asked about re-joining the network.
Irwin’s jump to Virgin Radio Toronto wasn’t the only big change at Bell Media Radio this week.
Bell moved to eliminate its morning show team at 107.3 KOOL FM (CHBE-FM) Victoria. Paul Allen and Heather Palak have been removed from the station’s website, with KOOL FM playing music only, sans on-air talent, in the breakfast show slot.
The same goes for Bell’s modern rock station 98.9 The Drive (CKLC-FM) Kingston, which has also been flying without announcers.
On Monday, the station’s on-air line-up was essentially moved over to Hot AC sister station 98.3 FLY FM (CFLY-FM) with the new lineup featuring Reid & Ben in the Morning, followed by At Work with Rebecca Fryer, Afternoons with Riley, and then Brittany on Fly.
Thirty-year FLY FM on-air personality Dave Deodato was a casualty of the changes. The station’s former music director, Deodato had been part-time since 2002.
Back in late November, FLY FM was one of the station’s caught up in major bloodletting across the network that saw six on-air staff released at Virgin Radio Toronto, including the Tucker In The Morning crew, as well as the Virgin Radio Edmonton morning show.
