Jason Pires joins Global BC’s ‘Global News Morning’

Jason Pires, who announced his departure from CTV Vancouver this week, is crossing the street to join Global BC’s Global News Morning.

Pires, who began his career in his hometown of Victoria, BC at CHEK-TV, had been with CTV since 2001, first on Vancouver Island before joining the Vancouver bureau as sports director and an anchor and reporter in 2008. He’d been the co-host of the local edition of CTV Morning Live since 2017, alongside Keri Adams, up until changes at Bell Media in June that saw him moved to the noon anchor desk.

“I’m thrilled to start a new chapter at Global BC,” said Pires, in a Corus Entertainment announcement. “I’m equally ecstatic to be back on the morning shift and get started with my new teammates, especially my co-anchor, the gifted Sonia Sunger. I’m excited to help shape a new era at Global News Morning and offer a dynamic program that continues to be intensely local, informative, trustworthy, and also one that likes to have a bit of fun. It’s a privilege to help viewers start their day and be included in the rhythm of their mornings.”

In addition to Sunger, Global News Morning features Global BC chief meteorologist Mark Madryga and traffic reporter Katelin Owsianski.

“Jason brings a wealth of journalism experience, a deep passion for our community, and telling its stories,” said Bhupinder Hundal, News Director and Station Manager, Global BC. “His humility and authenticity will be great for our team and the Global BC audience.”
