Farpoint Films acquires Scotfree Productions

Farpoint Films is acquiring Scotfree Productions, with owner Scott R. Leary tapped to become Farpoint’s Chief Content Officer, in addition to joining the ownership team.

Leary has been working alongside Farpoint Films for more than 15 years with creator and producer credits on projects like true crime series Cruise Ship Killers; The Illegal Eater, hosted by Steven Page; and award-winning comedy-mystery film, Room for Rent.

Leary started his career in front of the camera as a reporter covering news and sports, before moving behind the camera as a producer and director for Craig Broadcasting, and later CTV. He transitioned into independent production in the early 2000s, working on both lifestyle and scripted series.

Chris Charney

Leary’s new title is accompanied by a series of internal promotions at Farpoint headlined by the appointment of Chris Charney, Head Writer & Partner, as President of Farpoint Films. He’ll head up the company’s production and post-production strategy, including its current output deal with Super Channel.

Kyle Bornais moves into the role of CEO within the Farpoint group, which also includes Farpoint Distribution, run by President Craig McGillivray.

The moves come as the Winnipeg-based company celebrates its 25th year in film and television production.

“I’m excited to take on this new leadership role within Farpoint as we continue to grow,” said Charney. “We’ve got an amazing staff that consistently produces world-class programs with no sign of slowing down anytime soon.”

“I never imagined when we started Farpoint that we would be at this point 25 years later,” added Bornais. “These changes are a result of a lot of hard work from dedicated people over the years and I can’t wait to see what the future brings for our company. I am excited to be passing on the reigns to Chris and Scott and look forward to working with them and Craig in building the Farpoint brands international presence.”
