CSAs hand out Broadcast News & Sports Awards

The Canadian Screen Awards’ 2026 Broadcast News & Sports Awards were handed out Friday morning at the CBC Broadcast Centre in Toronto.

By network, CBC and Sportsnet each claimed a leading six awards. CBC’s Mark Kelley was recognized with Best Host or Interviewer, News or Information for The Fifth Estate, while The National’s Margaret Evans won Best National Reporter. Stef Reid won Best Sports Host for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Sportsnet talent walking away with wins, included Kevin Bieksa for Hockey Night in Canada (Best Sports Analyst) and Dan Shulman for Blue Jays on Sportsnet (Best Sports Play-by-Play Announcer).

TSN picked up three awards, while CTV claimed two awards, both for W5’s Avery Haines Investigates, which captured Best News or Information Program or Series.

Global National’s Dawna Friesen captured that network’s sole win for Best News Anchor, National, with APTN National News winning Best National Newscast.

CityNews Toronto journalists claimed both Local talent categories, with Cynthia Mulligan winning Best News Anchor, Local and Afua Baah named Best Local Reporter.
