CityNews launches national talk radio show

Rogers Sports & Media launches a national talk show on its CityNews radio stations Monday, helmed by Ottawa broadcast veteran Rob Snow.

“Now You Know with Rob Snow” will air on CityNews 570 (CKGL-AM) Kitchener, CityNews 95.7 (CJNI-FM) Halifax, CityNews 660 (CFFR-AM) Calgary, CityNews 1130 (CKWX-AM) Vancouver, and online at CityNews.ca. It will also be released as a daily podcast through Frequency Podcast Network.

Airing live from 1 – 4 p.m. ET (2 – 4 p.m. AT, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. MT, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. PT), the move marks the first time talk will air on the Vancouver and Calgary stations, which up until now have broadcast a round-the-clock “news wheel” format. Toronto’s CityNews 680 (CFTR-AM) is the only CityNews radio station opting not to pick up the show.

“Now You Know” will be produced by Snow’s long-time producer David Smith, promising to dive into the top headlines of the day, interviews with newsmakers, breaking news, live news conferences, and listener interaction.

A self-described “political junkie,” Snow said in a promo for the new show that politics of the day will feature prominently.

“We’ll take you right to Parliament Hill, right to the corridors of power because it’s going to be a really interesting year ahead I think in federal politics,” said Snow, adding that the program will also focus on the economy, affordability, interest rates, mortgage rates, jobs, energy policy, and the future of the oil and gas sector, in addition to hot button issues like the carbon tax and health care.

Up until late October, Snow was heard on CityNews 101.1 and 1310 in Ottawa, where Rogers Sports & Media has abandoned the news talk format, citing audience and revenue declines, compounded by a restrictive regulatory environment. Snow, who is also a former 580 CFRA personality, joined CityNews in early 2020, following the departure of now-Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe from the station.
