CEMA hands out 46th annual awards recognizing multicultural & multilingual journalism

The Canadian Ethnic Media Association (CEMA) has announced the winners of the 46th Annual Awards for Journalistic Excellence, recognizing some of Canada’s best multicultural/multilingual journalists.

Taya Rtichsheva

Winnipeg’s U Multicultural community TV and radio broadcast is this year’s only multiple award winner, with the U Kanadi podcast recognized, alongside Executive Director Taya Rtichsheva, who was named the winner in the Innovation category.

“The Awards of Journalistic Excellence have been a showcase for highlighting the works of dedicated media professionals for 46 years. As a positive and necessary influence in nation building, it is a lens for interpretation of Canadian values, standards and quality of life,” said Madeline Ziniak, Chair of the Canadian Ethnic Media Association, in an announcement. “The Canadian Ethnic Media Association advocates the importance and necessity of this third pillar of communication in Canada. We have been lobbying the industry, federal and provincial governments for support and recognition of this essential media sector.”

The awards will be webcast on CEMA’s website at canadianethnicmedia.com on Thursday, March 6 at 10 p.m. ET.
