CBC has announced it’s introducing a new slate of original content under the “CBC Money“ banner, dedicated to personal finance and money matters.
Launching in 2027, CBC Money will be backed by a new CBC News studio and nine-person team in downtown Calgary, with five new business reporters to be hired in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal and Halifax. Two additional producers will provide support from Toronto.
“With CBC Money, we will move beyond market updates and boardroom chatter, delivering essential stories of money-planning strategies and financial resilience to help Canadians make more informed decisions,” said Brodie Fenlon, General Manager and Editor-in-Chief of CBC News. “Placing this new focus on personal finance outside of Canada’s big financial centres – with reporters across the country, a core Calgary team and a new studio location in that city – will help us broaden our news coverage of the country’s diverse economy and the forces that impact everyday Canadians.”
With programming under the vertical to be featured across TV, radio, audio, digital, and streaming, CBC Money will also feature a new video series from CBC Radio’s Cost of Living, hosted by Paul Haavardsrud, that will offer practical business and money tips. The public broadcaster said in an announcement that the details of additional personal finance shows, including new podcasts, are still forthcoming.
“CBC Money will serve audiences across Canada with programming that offers insights and information as well as relatable experiences and personal stories, exploring all aspects of how money touches our daily lives and our relationships,” added Sally Catto, General Manager, Entertainment, CBC. “From broadcast and streaming series to audio storytelling, the CBC Money entertainment offering will explore the humanity behind the numbers.”
CBC Money will also highlight content from some of the public broadcaster’s existing programs focused on money matters, including Dragons’ Den, Go Public, Marketplace, Street Cents, as well as coverage from the CBC News business units based in Toronto and Calgary.
