Canadian Heritage opens call for CBC/Radio-Canada presidency applications

Canadian Heritage has announced a call for applications for the position of President of CBC/Radio-Canada.

Catherine Tait, the first woman in the history of the public broadcaster to serve as President and CEO, had her appointment extended by 18 months last June. She’ll continue in the role until Jan. 2, 2025.

The process to find her successor is being led by an Independent Advisory Committee, chaired by former Just for Laughs President & CEO Charles Décarie, which will recommend candidates to the minister “that both reflect Canada’s diversity and can lead at a critical time of modernization,” according to a Heritage department release.

In addition to Décarie, the members of the committee include: TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey (ON); Jocelyn Formsma, Executive Director of the National Association of Friendship Centres (ON); Creative BC CEO Prem Gill (BC); Michael Goldbloom, Chair of the CBC/Radio-Canada Board of Directors (Que.); former Radio-Canada Atlantic director Louise Imbeault (NB); former Conservative cabinet minister Lisa Raitt (ON); producer and former SODEC (Société de Développement des Entreprises Culturelles) president Monique Simard (Que.); and Ojibwe filmmaker Jeremy Torrie (MB).

Among other criteria, the committee is looking for significant management experience at the senior executive level, ideally within a major private or public sector organization, including organizational culture and change leadership; experience serving on the board of a major private or public sector organization; management experience in a unionized environment; experience in the cultural sector or fields of broadcasting, journalism, media, production, information technology or multimedia, or experience in the fields of government affairs or public affairs; and experience in dealing with the federal government, preferably with senior government officials.

Interested candidates are invited to submit applications by April 12.
