Brother-sister duo Ruby & Alex make their debut on 102.1 the Edge

102.1 the Edge (CFNY-FM) Toronto launched its new morning show Mornings With Ruby & Alex today (Jan. 7), as part of the station’s revamped 2019 daytime programming lineup.

Hosted by sister-brother duo Ruby Carr and Alex Carr, the alt rock station is billing the show as “North America’s only radio morning show hosted solely by siblings.” Airing weekdays from 5:30 – 10:00 a.m ET, the show marks the first time the Carr siblings have been on-air together.

Ruby previously hosted the morning show at Z95.3 (CKZZ-FM) in Vancouver, and was the 2018 winner of the Allan Waters Young Broadcaster of the Year Award at Canadian Music Week last year.

Alex comes to the Edge from his prior role as midday host at fellow Corus alt rock station CFOX-FM Vancouver. With a background in stand-up comedy, he was previously with X92.9 (CFEX-FM) in Calgary.

“We’ve come up with the 2019 cure for boring morning commutes,” said Tammy Cole, program director for 102.1 the Edge, in a press release. “As Toronto’s alternative station, we play the best alternative music; in Ruby and Alex we also have the very best millennial talent, complementing the music mix with their energy, humour, and natural chemistry.”

Originally announced back in September, the new morning show comes following a handful of on-air changes at CFNY in early August that saw Adam Ricard and Melani Mariani released from mornings and Fearless Fred moved over to Corus sister station Q107 (CILQ-FM).

102.1 the Edge’s refreshed programming lineup is rounded out by midday mainstay Carly Meyers from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., and new afternoon drive duo Meredith Geddes and Kolter Bouchard from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. Geddes also arrives at CFNY from CFOX Vancouver.

Adam Wylde & TJ O’Halloron

102.1 the Edge isn’t the only Toronto radio station to kick off 2019 with a new morning show. Virgin Radio 99.9 (CKFM-FM) unveiled Adam Wylde and TJ O’Halloran as the station’s new morning co-hosts last week. Wylde left Rogers’ KiSS 92.5 (CKIS-FM) and Breakfast Television Toronto in June and now works down the hall from mom Marilyn Denis, who continues to co-host CHUM-FM mornings with Jamar McNeil.

The Virgin Radio 99.9 morning show’s previous incarnation Tucker in the Morning, including Scott Tucker, Maura Grierson and Andy Wilson, was part of a November round of layoffs at Bell Media.
