Arsenal Media has reached an agreement with Gregory Charles’ Groupe Musique Greg to acquire Radio Classique CJSQ 92.7 FM in Quebec City.
The announcement comes just a week after Arsenal announced it had made a bid to acquire French-language sports network BPM Sports from RNC Media, including CKLX 91.9 Montreal, CHXX 100.9 Quebec City, and CFTX 96.5 Gatineau.
Subject to CRTC approval, and successful closure of the prospective deal announced last week, Arsenal Media would own 30 stations across the province. The transaction is also subject to approval of a licence amendment application to convert CJSQ from its Orchestral/Jazz/Chanson format.
Sylvain Chamberland, President and CEO of Arsenal Media, said the acquisition “marks a key moment” in the company’s evolution.
“The potential addition of CJSQ consolidates Arsenal Media’s upward trajectory,” said Chamberland. “We intend to continue investing boldly in the markets that are shaping the future of radio. Our ambition is clear: to offer a stronger, more innovative, and more relevant radio experience than ever before, for both our listeners and our partners. CJSQ represents a tremendous opportunity to expand our impact and demonstrate that an independent Quebec group can play a leading role.”
Charles, a celebrated piano prodigy and radio personality in Quebec, has owned CJSQ-FM since late 2014. Its sister station CJPX-FM Montreal was sold to Leclerc Communication in 2020.
“Ten years ago, when we acquired Radio-Classique, we committed to continuing to showcase this beautiful music and to supporting the local institutions and musicians who make a living from it,” added Charles, President of Groupe Musique Greg. “That’s what we’ve done, with respect and passion. As everyone knows, the radio and music landscape has changed considerably in ten years. We are pleased to entrust our Quebec City station to Arsenal, an organization that will give this station renewed relevance and make it an undeniable success.”
