Nat Lauzon has parted ways with The Beat 92.5 (CKBE-FM) Montreal after 15 years with Cogeco Media.
Lauzon, the host of Feel Good Weekends and a fixture in the market for almost three decades, told listeners in a post to Facebook on Thursday that “the curtain has drawn” on her time at The Beat 92.5.
“What a sweet-arse ride I have been afforded in this beautiful city! I moved to Montreal 27 years ago next month,” wrote Lauzon. “I could never have expected the great career I would have here. Radio has clearly been a huge part of most of my life. Long before I was behind a mic – I WANTED to be behind a mic. I was a little girl in Northern Ontario, huddled under the covers wheeling through the stations on my AM Walkman, seeking faraway stations and voices through the static. And then, years later – I got to BE one of them!”
Lauzon got her start in radio at the age of 14 in her hometown of Timmins, ON. She went on to host overnights and later afternoon drive on Mix 99.9 (CKFM-FM) Toronto. She’s been heard on the Montreal airwaves since 1999, initially on the evening show on Mix 96 (CJFM-FM), before joining Andre Maisonneuve on Andre and Nat in the Morning. She went on to host middays on Mix 96 successor Virgin Radio for eight years and briefly hosted talk on CJAD 800 alongside David Acer, before joining The Beat in 2011.
“Like every business, radio has a volatile side,” wrote Lauzon. “But my love has never been for the business of radio – it’s been for the art. The creativity. The magic. The fun. The escapism. That’s where my brain lights up, flourishes, and creates. That’s where I get to play. And because I’ve been able to PLAY for 36 years, I’ve become a damn good broadcaster.”
“Friends – I’m honestly not sure what happens from here,” she continued. “I guess I’ll just take a beat (yeah, I heard it) and sort through some life stuff. Please know, I have loved making radio with you and for you. Thanks for your earballs and your kindness and for letting me be part of your lives for so very long.”
