Trailblazers has launched the Next Gen Trailblazer Award, a new recognition aimed at celebrating and supporting the next generation of women leaders in Canadian broadcasting.
Formerly Radio Trailblazers, the organization rebranded last year to include women across radio, television and podcasting. It also introduced the Trailblazer Award (formerly dubbed the Rosalie Award, in honour of pioneering CKLW music director Rosalie Trombley), presented annually to a woman in broadcasting who has made a significant impact on the industry in Canada.
The Next Gen Trailblazer Award shifts focus to emerging talent, recognizing professionals with up to 10 years of industry experience who demonstrate outstanding leadership, creativity, integrity, and passion. The organization says the new initiative aligns with its core mission to mentor and champion young Canadian broadcasters, providing them with essential support in a competitive field.
“The decision to focus on emerging talent is a direct reflection of our commitment to the future of Canadian broadcasting,” said Nancy Brown-Dacko, Trailblazers’ Chairperson, in an announcement. “By celebrating the next generation of leaders, we are investing in the innovation and dynamism that will propel our industry forward. We want to give these rising stars a significant leg up in their careers.”

Five winners will be selected by a jury of industry professionals. Each recipient will receive a $2,000 bursary (courtesy of Orbyt Media and the Scotia Women’s Institute) to support their career development and an invitation to join the Trailblazers panel at Radiodays North America in May.
Nominations are now open and will be evaluated on five key criteria, including Career Achievements, Leadership Qualities, Innovation & Creativity, Integrity, and Passion.
The deadline for nominations is April 10, with the winners to be announced on April 20.
