Jamar McNeil joins Josie Dye on CHUM 104.5 drive home show

Jamar McNeil joins Josie Dye on the CHUM 104.5 Toronto afternoon drive show, beginning this afternoon.

Josie & Jamar will air weekday afternoons from 3 – 6 p.m. ET. The move sees McNeil leave Marilyn Denis & Jamar after six years, which he joined in 2018 ahead of the retirement of Roger Ashby, Denis’ co-host of 30 years.

Prior to joining CHUM, McNeil had a decade-long run on the morning show at Chicago’s B96 FM, in addition to stints at Y100 Miami, 96.5 Kiss FM Cleveland, Hot 99.5 Washington, D.C., in addition to Irie 98.9 in the Cayman Islands.

Dye signed on with CHUM in January after being heard in mornings on Indie88 (CIND-FM) Toronto for seven years. She’s best known for 14-years on-air at 102.1 The Edge (CFNY-FM).

McNeil announced his move to afternoons two weeks ago, telling listeners “an exciting opportunity” had come up to build a new show.

“What we’re going to be doing in the afternoon is filling Toronto with the best music as usual, we’re gong to have some amazing conversations, some of the best contests that have ever been played in Toronto, and the city’s radio station CHUM 104.5 is going to get that much better for…the most awful time of the day, the ride home,” said McNeil, with he and Denis noting a greater need to accompany listeners in their cars during the GTA’s burgeoning rush hour as more people return to work in-office.

“We can’t wait for listeners to connect with Toronto’s newest radio duo Josie & Jamar on the legendary CHUM 104.5,” said Heidi Baiden, Program Director, CHUM 104.5, in a Bell Media announcement. “Toronto has embraced Jamar since the moment he joined the station in 2018 to co-host the morning show with Marilyn Denis and Roger Ashby. Josie has been a respected Toronto broadcaster for two decades, and we were thrilled to have her join the CHUM team earlier this year. Together, these two beloved personalities will bring a whole new energy to Toronto’s afternoon drive.”

Allan Waters Young Broadcaster of the Year Luke Rodriguez, the afternoon drive host on Virgin Radio (CFMG-FM) Edmonton, is sitting in with Marilyn Denis on the morning show over the summer.
