Canadian comedian Tom Green, actor Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, and Lionsgate Television Group chairman Kevin Beggs, are among those set to be recognized at the Banff World Media Festival (BANFF) Rockies Gala Awards.
Green is this year’s winner of the Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy Award, recognizing a creative talent who has made an outstanding comedic contribution to the media industry, while Sun-Hyung Lee is being awarded the Canadian Award of Distinction, presented by the Canada Media Fund (CMF/FMC) and MadeNous to a Canadian whose body of work exemplifies outstanding achievement in the entertainment industry.
Beggs, who in addition to serving as Chairman & Chief Creative Officer of Lionsgate Television, serves as Chair of the Board of the BANFF Television Festival Foundation, will receive the Award of Excellence. It acknowledges exceptional achievement through a body of work over an extended period of time.
Other honourees include Good Morning America host Robin Roberts, who’ll receive the Inclusion Award. Actress and singer Renée Elise Goldsberry, known for Netflix comedy Girls5eva, and her originating role in the musical Hamilton, will receive the Creative Voice Award, bestowed on an executive or creative talent that has created outstanding work that breaks through, inspiring and connecting global audiences.
Montreal’s Attraction is the recipient of this year’s Innovative Producer Award recognizing the entrepreneurial excellence and achievements of an independent producer in TV/digital media.
To be handed out during the 45th edition of the festival, June 9-12, at Fairmont Banff Springs, this year’s Rockies Gala will be hosted on Monday, June 10 by Emmy–winning executive producer, correspondent, director and writer Allana Harkin, best known for her work over seven seasons on TBS’ Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. Most recently she directed and executive produced the series Nesting for Crave, which is up for a 2024 Rockie Award.
On the following evening, the juried Rockie Awards International Program Competition will be announced, hosted by Jasmeet Raina, creator and star of Crave Original series Late Bloomer. Category winners, including the Grand Jury Prize, the Rogers Prize for Canadian Content, the Emerging Talent Prize, the Prix Francophone Prize, and others.
