Nominations open for Allan Waters Young Broadcaster of the Year

Radiodays North America and Canadian Music Week have opened nominations for the Allan Waters Young Broadcaster of the Year Award.

Awarded annually in memory of legendary radio programmer Steve Young, this will be the 15th award recognizing emerging broadcast talent.

The winning recipient receives a trip to Radiodays North America to accept their award at the event’s opening reception on June 3.

Anyone working in the Canadian radio industry can nominate any worthy broadcaster meeting the following criteria:

• Candidates must be under 30 years of age as of Dec. 31, 2023
• Must work in On-Air, Programming, Promotions, Production or Creative
• Must be a Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant
• Must have made a significant, documented contribution to the community they serve, the radio industry or their craft

Past nominees, including last year’s runners-up, can be nominated again if they still meet the criteria. Nominations close April 22.

Past honourees include Virgin Radio National Midday Host Shannon Burns; SONiC 102.9 (CHDI-FM) Edmonton afternoon drive personality Lauren Hunter; K96.3 (CKKO-FM) Kelowna and K97.5 (CKRV-FM) Kamloops morning show host Brad Karp; The Zone @ 91-3 (CJZN-FM) Victoria afternoon co-host Jenny West; and Q107 (CILQ-FM) Toronto afternoon drive personality Fearless Fred.
