Harvard Media expands ‘play’ brand in Alberta

Harvard Media has expanded its play brand to Red Deer and Fort McMurray, as of Monday, Jan. 15.

The company has rebranded kraze 101.3 (CKIK-FM) Red Deer and Mix 103.7 (CFVR-FM) Fort McMurray under the play format, which blends throwback pop with current hits which Harvard bills as “a celebration of shared nostalgia and contemporary enthusiasm.” It first introduced the format to Edmonton in 2019 and expanded it to Regina in 2020.

The format changes come with a revamped lineup that sees play92 (CHMX-FM) Regina morning show team Mark and Jess extend their footprint to the new play101 Red Deer. Mark and Jess are also heard in afternoon drive on play107 Edmonton.

Jake Ryan handles middays across the play network, while Edmonton morning show duo Ryder and Lisa, are now also heard in afternoons on play in Red Deer and Regina.

Kierstyn Pare moves into evenings across the play brand in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Handling mornings on play103 Fort McMurray are Steph & John (Steph Seidel formerly hosted mornings on Mix 103 and serves as the station’s APD) with Mike Booth (formerly heard in mornings on Kraze Red Deer) in afternoon drive.

Meanwhile, X100.7 (CKEX-FM), Red Deer’s Alternative, also sees some lineup changes.

Beckler and Seanna, the morning show team on X92.9 (CFEX-FM) Calgary, now do double duty in both markets.

Justin Crouch remains a fixture in middays on both X stations, while Chad and Evan, the morning show duo from Harvard’s The Wolf 104.9 (CFWF-FM) Regina, are introduced in afternoons on X100.7 Red Deer. Former X100.7 morning show host Sean McEwan is now being heard in evenings in both Red Deer and Calgary.

“As we  embark on this exciting journey, Harvard Media is committed to delivering a fresh, engaging, and entertaining experience for Red Deer and Fort McMurray,” said Jim McCourtie, VP of Local Media, in an announcement. “This lineup of talented content creators emphasizes our commitment to delivering quality content that not only resonates but  also enhances the unique spirit of our vibrant communities.”

Harvard announced in November it was reducing positions in Red Deer and adding positions within its Fort McMurray operation, which includes newly-rebranded play103 and 100.5 CRUZ FM (CHFT-FM).
