Online & Digital Media News – CMF pilot to support digital creators

Canada Media Fund (CMF) has announced a new pilot program designed to support the growth of mid-career Canadian digital creators making short-form video content for social media platforms. Part of CMF’s Experimental Stream, the Digital Creators Pilot Program (DCPP) will launch with a total budget of $500,000, which will fund content creation as well as business and marketing activities. Creators will need to provide a business plan and demonstrate they have been active for at least 12 months, with an average of one post per month in that period on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or YouTube. Successful applicants will receive up to $20,000 for eligible costs. Find program guidelines here.

Corus Entertaiment’s Nelvana and London-based Toikido have unleashed six new Piñata Smashlings shorts on Nelvana’s Keep it Weird YouTube channel, based on the popular Roblox game. Nelvana is in the process of developing a new animated children’s series inspired by the gaming IP, which has been played two million times since its debut last summer.
