Wendy Freeman, Vice-President of CTV News, will step down at the end of this year after more than 25 years with the network.
“It is with a great sense of pride and accomplishment that I announce today that I am leaving my position as Head of CTV News,” said Freeman, in a Bell Media press release on Wednesday. “I am extremely grateful for all the wonderful people that crossed my path over the past 25 years, some of which have become great friends over the years. While I am sad to leave such a great team, I am excited for the next chapter of my career.”
Wendy has led the CTV News division since 2010, responsible for news, information, and current events programming including CTV News Channel, BNN Bloomberg, CP24, and shows like W5, Question Period, and Power Play.
Freeman and her work with the network have been recognized with numerous awards, including an RTDNA Canada National Lifetime Achievement Award, this past June. The RTDNA also presented her with its 2015 President’s Award. Additionally, she was named Woman of the Year by Women in Communications and Technology (WCT) in 2014, and made the Women’s Executive Network (WXN) Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 in 2012 and 2016.
Prior to 2010, Freeman held a variety of senior management positions with CTV. Originally from Montreal, she began her broadcast career with Citytv Toronto and has also worked at WPIX-TV New York, WXYZ-TV Detroit, and the former CKO Radio News network.
“Wendy has been a trailblazer for women in media, a consummate broadcaster who guided CTV News to be the premier source of news for Canadians for over a decade,” said Karine Moses, Senior Vice President, Content Development and News, Bell Media. “Her tireless drive to provide Canadians with the top news stories of the day has earned her multiple accolades over the years, but perhaps her most meaningful contribution is the building of the incredibly strong team she leaves behind. As she reflects on her next endeavours, we wish her the very best.”
