Kevin Desjardins named first CAB president since 2009

Kevin Desjardins has been named as the new president of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB), effective today.

Dejardins previously worked with the CAB from 2005-07 in communications, member services, and public affairs roles. For the last eight years, he’s been the Director of Public Affairs for the Canadian Dental Association. He’s also worked with the Tourism Industry Association of Canada and Canadian Conference of the Arts.

“I am thrilled at the opportunity to work with Canada’s private broadcasters again,” said Desjardins, in a release announcing his appointment. “I have always believed that broadcasters are essential connectors in their local communities, and are increasingly innovative enterprises that can contend on the global stage. While the sector faces many challenges, I look forward to serving and representing the CAB’s members as we address these issues now and in the years to come.”

“We are very happy to welcome Kevin back to the CAB and to the broadcast industry,” added Lenore Gibson, Chair of the CAB Board of Directors. “Kevin is an accomplished association leader, with a wealth of experience in federal advocacy and communications. We look forward to working with him to raise the profile of the sector and pursue a more fair and sustainable future for private radio and broadcast in Canada.”

Desjardins is the organization’s first president since Glenn O’Farrell’s resignation in December 2008 and his departure a month later, which was followed by a decision to restructure and downsize the association. His appointment comes as Sylvie Bissonnette, CAB Vice-President, Finance & Administration and CFO, retires this month. Bissonnette has been with the organization for 29 years.
