Global plans to expand national morning show to full hour

Global has announced plans to expand its national morning program The Morning Show, from 30 minutes to one hour. The new, extended show will make its debut on the network in early March in the 9 a.m. (10 a.m. AT) time slot.

Co-hosted by Carolyn MacKenzie and Jeff McArthur, who have been with the show since 2015, a press release says the program’s renewed focus will be on culture, lifestyle and entertainment, featuring celebrity guests and lifestyle contributors, alongside trending topics and segments.

“The refreshed show will offer deeper spirited interviews with entertaining guests as well as a variety of informative contributors, exactly what audiences want,” said Ryan Cripps, the show’s executive producer. “Carolyn and Jeff are incredibly warm and approachable hosts – guaranteed to brighten the day for our viewers.”

The Morning Show has two editions, a local (Toronto-only) edition, airing 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. ET, and a national edition immediately following at 9 a.m.

Global says Liem Vu will continue as a co-host on the Toronto-only edition and regular contributor to the national edition, with additional announcements around the local edition to come.

The national edition will continue to air on all 15 of Global’s affiliates across the country, including Global BC, Global Okanagan, Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, Durham, Peterborough, Kingston, Montreal, New Brunswick and Halifax.

Broadcast from the network’s lakefront studio at Corus Quay in downtown Toronto, over the years The Morning Show has welcomed guests ranging from Regis Philbin and actor Jake Gyllenhaal to author Salmon Rushdie.

“We’re extremely proud to introduce additional original Canadian programming into our daily lineup,” said Ward Smith, Vice-President News and Information, Eastern Canada, Corus Entertainment. “At a time of great change within the media landscape, we’re pleased to offer Canada even more refreshing and lively content.”
